Hello all, I've got a 2015 V6 Convertible. A poor weld has come apart on the muffler just after the resonator box on the passenger side. Dealer says it isn't covered and they want $1200.00 to fix it.
Anyone having the same problem?

Ive got 37,070 miles on her

Anyone from ford here that can help to get it covered for me?

Thanks,
Scott

$1200.00 to fix a weld????

Call Ford Customer Service 800# and start a claim about it...

That’s insane... you could literally purchase an awesome aftermarket exhaust from engine to tailpipe for less than $1200.00...

Or an exhaust shop can probably fix that for an hour of labor or so.

Well,1, of course it's not covered > 36K. 2...take it to a muffler shop and they'll do it for $20.

How do you make things so complicated :headbonk:

Tell them that the exhaust is part of the powertrain and thus covered to 5/60. The engineers who own and release the exhaust are under powertrain engineering. All warranty associated with the exhaust goes back to Powertrain engineering.

That said, it would be less than $100 for a competent exhaust shop.

Thanks for all the replies.

To be clear, the dealer said they did not have the proper equipment to weld it. My choices were
a) pay $1200 to replace factory exhaust
b) pay $130 diagnostic fee and do nothing

I was thinking I would rather pay for an aftermarket upgrade if i was going to have to spend that much

I am bringing the car to minake muffler tomorrow

I just expected to be better taken care of in a new car still within the 3 years and just a hair over the mileage on what is clearly a manufacture defect. People on this forum should know what they are getting into

I like the drivetrain idea. I'll try to work it

Thanks!

Are you trolling everyone? How does a ford dealership not have the proper equipment to weld it?

I can assure you that he's not trolling. When my ex' RAV4 got a hole in the muffler as we were driving, we went to a Toyota dealership that was within a mile of us. We thought $200 at most for a new muffler. Wrong. They said that it was against the law for them to cut out the muffler and put in a new one (not that they had any). They said that they did not have any welders because they don't do muffler repair work as they come in one piece.

Places like Midas, Meineke, pep boys, etc... all said the same thing. That it was against the law for them to modify an OEM exhaust. They all were happy to replace the whole system for $1000. On a 2007 rav4.

Went to a custom muffler shop and they did the job for $50.

Dealerships will not re-weld parts. They can and only will replace one piece sections.
