Inside sources have new details about Ford's SVT and special edition lineup on the new S550 platform:

Last week we reported that Ford might be dropping the Shelby GT500 in favor of the SVT Cobra for the next generation Mustang, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the Shelby name will be disappearing from the Ford lineup. According to our sources inside Ford, the company will introduce a Shelby GT350 model for 2016, a year after the next generation Mustang is launched for 2015. The big news is that the car will be an official Ford factory model, similar to the current Shelby GT500, and unlike the current GT350 model that is only a post-title package available directly from Shelby. Details about the 2016 Shelby GT350 are understandably scarce at the moment, but we hear it will be more of a stripped-down performance car just like in 1965, and expect it to be more affordable than the current model, which starts at just over $58,000.

Another legendary moniker will be returning to the Mustang lineup in the near future as well, with our sources indicating that the Mach 1 is slated to be introduced as early as 2017. The Mach 1 name was last used a decade ago with a limited production run from 2003-2004, with the car featuring an aluminum block 32-valve 4.6-liter V8 producing 305 horsepower as well as a host of other performance upgrades compared to the base Mustang GT including front 13-inch Brembo brakes, Tokico shocks and stiffer springs. The look of the car was decidedly retro, with a function shaker hood scoop, unique 17-inch 5-spoke wheels and 1960s-style “comfortweave” leather seats.

Details about the new Mach 1 are few and far between at this point, but we look forward to the model making an appearance in the Mustang lineup once again and will share any news about the car as soon as we hear any updates.

Wow!!

This is a big surprise and much more than what I had in mind. I was expecting the 2015 Mustang, 2016-17 GT500 rebranded as SVT Cobra and maybe a special edition GT350 from Ford in 2017-18.

Damn Ford is NOT messing around with this one. It's gonna be so exciting to watch.

So the line up may look like this...

GT - $32k
SVT Cobra - $55k ? (based on gt500 prices)

GT350 - $58k (if these rumors are true)
Mach1 - $43k? (I'm guessing this is the real Boss 302 replacement)

ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT!!!!

HERE WE GO!!!!

Someday, people will listen to the Pill :) However, I never specifically suggested the Mach 1... I did suggest they reserve those nostalgic nameplates for special editions. The GT350 will be Ford Racing's catalog turn-key.

No the article says the GT350 would be priced under the post title package total.. so under $58,000.

Sounds like the GT350 would be gunning for the z28. Didn't GM say it would be priced around that $55-58K range too?

Lol Ford about to put the hurt on GM big time..........I hear big things are coming for the coyote engine power output and we have those fresh rumors about the voodoo engine making close to 600hp.

LOL

Really wish the Mach 1 would come out before the GT350 if it's within the Boss 302 price range.... can't afford anything beyond that. :frusty:

Same boat I'm in. I'm guessing that the GT is going to go up in price though. It's already easy to configure one for over 40k.

I dont mind the GT going up in price since I've been saving up for whatever Ford offers above that.... but I'm just hoping 1) it's not 2017 and 2) it's within the same price range as the Boss 302.

Now, lets give a stab as to what a 2017 Mach 1 would be equipped with. We already have a GT using an NA 5.0. Looks like the GT350 is gonna be an High Output NA 5.0 for road racing. I believe the GT500 will continue to be FI, supercharged to be exact.... Could a Mach 1 be the first Ecoboost V8 in the lineup? Seems like a decent place to showcase a future engine option without disrupting the GT500's engine.

But what would that be? A PTWA's SC Coyote? Maybe an NA GT500 motor for the Mach 1...

Can't move away from retro if you keep bringing back retro badges...future buyers don't have a clue about 60's/70's nameplates. Titanium should be the top of the line. With ST being the Ecoboost and GT the 5.0.

I'm thinking the same thing, and if we are thinking that, so are they. I haven't personally heard anything about a Mach 1. This portion of the rumor could be a leak to see the market reaction (GT350 as well).

Right now, there looks like 3 possible V8 nameplates. The GT, GT350 and GT500... Anything after that is pushing it... If "ST" is used, I imagine it will be the Ecoboost 4. "ST" is short for "Street Touring" which is a step down from "GT" or "Grand Touring".

Could even do a mini-scheme with the "ST" badge.

ST (Ecoboost 4)
ST3.5 or ST350 (The Ecoboost 3.5 V6 and mini-GT350)
ST5 or ST500 (Twin Turbo 3.5 V6 and mini-GT500)

Lots of fun there with the ST, ST350 and ST500 :)
