So is it still the same weak OPG/Gears?

Yes, OP gears remain unchanged unfortunately.

The casting looks a lot cleaner/better than the older Coyote blocks.

Gears need to be fixed.
Rods look weak for boosted applications.
Grainy surface of the pistons and valves looks inviting for carbon build up.

Heads look Awesome!
Valve train looks Great!
Block looks beefier....
Total package does not look like it gained weight.

Can we get a weight on the rods? They don't look weaker than any other coyote rod (which all look pretty skimpy) and the gen 2s handle boost and rpm decently. With the higher rev limit maybe these rods are improved in some way like metallurgy or something.

MMR, can you guys see any visual clues of increased block strength or bore strength?

I wonder how the, for lack of a better term, "spray-in-liners" on the cylinders will hold up on boosted applications?

My guess is, not very well. Will this be the Achilles heel of the 2018 Coyote engine for boost loving peeps? There is no way I would run this engine with any boosted application without sending the block out to have it sleeved.

That block is only as strong as the cylinder liners, and quite frankly, those scare the schiznit outta me. Time will tell.

I wonder if throwing DI heads on a gen 2 would help anything. I mean obviously it would need the matching pistons but having the best of both worlds is definitely intriguing.

If I recall it's the same liners used in the 2013-2014 GT500 and 2015+ GT350. So considering the fact it's been used in a boosted application from the same manufacturer it should be fine for boosted applications.

Any information on the construction of the pistons and rods? Are they still the same basic hyper/powder metal construction?

And it's interesting to see the extensive redesign of the coolant passages in the block. Looks almost identical to the LS architecture and completely different than any other recent modular block.
