So I mentioned in another thread that my 2018 order from Dec 5th hasn't gone anywhere. However there's a MT car with the same specs available, and I'm considering it.
This car has 3:73 gears. Tell me a little bit about the pros and cons (besides the obvious, I know it means quick take offs in 1st and "short legs" and minimal reduction in MPG).
I may do some auto cross in this car, but not super seriously.

Anything important I need to consider?

Not really anything to add... unless you are going to install a power-adder. then other ratios are better. I have 3.73s and 727 Roush SC. 1st gear is instant redline. pretty useless unless you are just granny driving.

I have seriously considered a rearend swap, just haven't 100% committed to it yet.

I would think first would be useless and that might get annoying.

Someday I may add a SC, but not any time soon and I have no problem swapping gears at that point should I do it.

3.73s feel really right on the 18s. I had them on my 2012 GT and felt like 1st gear was too short and worthless, but on the new configuration, it's still tall gearing that you wind out a bit, and the power delivery is bang on. I was reluctant but am really happy that I have them. I was originally looking at getting a non PP car with 3.55s instead due to my prior experience with the 3.73s.

With the '18 MT82 ratios, I would consider the 3.73s a necessary thing. With the older ratios, it's a tad short and 3.55 is kind of the sweet spot. I have 3.31 and even there it's still pretty short gearing overall.

What he said. The 2018 gearbox is different than previous years. Gears 5 and 6 are overdrive gears if Im not mistaken, which really only gives you your first four. Even so, my 2018 PP1 with 3.73 has caught me by surprise and bounced me off the rev limiter in first gear, even with the slightly higher redline.

I have 3.73s on my '17.
PROS: everything
Cons: Nothing

Yes, 1st is short. But no big deal. Rather have a short 1st gear than a long 1st gear. With 3.73s you're always in the powerband for the most part. I"m supercharged as well and still love it.

I think for a N/A car they are perfect. I doubt I'd enjoy my car as much if it didn't have the 3.73. They help lay you back into the seat which is probably why I felt like mine was faster than the A10 18' I test drove.

I'd say 3.73 is a must for manual 2018 cars with the taller geared transmission ratios. I think you'll like it, who drives in 1st gear anyways? About to install 3.91 in my 2017 :^)

Any one ever do a 4.10 or 3.90 swap? HeavyMetalMonk I hope you brought your check book I bet you'll be buying today lol.
You would have won that bet (or close enough) :headbang:

I test drove a pretty entry level GT with the MT. It was nice enough it sold me on the 6 speed. The loaded GT Premium is getting shipped in from another dealer tomorrow.
Next up:
Window tinting and racing stripes.
