My digital gauges indicate an average of 12.1 volts coming from the alt jumps to 13 but drops back down slowly. Is anyone else having this problem?

Should be 14.1v. Do you have volt/amp meter?

Mine has also been doing that from day 1. I was worried for tthe first few days because it would jump from 12.2-14.1 when running/driving it seems to cycle back and forth, but after 5800 miles it still does it and I've had no issues. I'm pretty sure it's Reading off Some advanced voltage regulator or something I know my buddy's new BMW does the something similar.

I have it too dealer checked it out while he fixed my car said when he ran a voltage check the alternator was charging at 14.2 even though it showed 12.7 on mine. told me not to worry about it. I have to bring car in Monday for servicing. he said Friday hell call mother ford on why it would display a lower number. he did mention it could be the current draw or something like that cant remember. I was shown when reeved to 3500 rpm it went to 14.1 than when returned to idle it displayed 12.7. idk if its working all good with me maybe they will be a pcm update :headbonk:

12.6 is a battery fully charged, if its charging anything under that, ur actually discharging.Test at the battery with some accessories on and that should fullfeild the alt and have a reading of 13.5 to 14.5 depending on the charge of the battery.

Set so the customer is not alarmed that their 12V system is at 14V

Also this engine revs to 7K, so alternators have to be slowed down, at idle they will not produce as much voltage, but will jump up once off idle. Also it should fluctuate as the battery discharges and recharges. I'm sure the gauge is just buffered to make it read a perceived normal.

So why is it that on every other vehicle I own the gauges stay at or close to a consistent 14 volts?

UPDATE after some spirited driving the gauge is reading properly. 14-14.6 all the time it does not drop below this and I only have 250 miles on the car.

Do these cars have a switchable alternator? My guess is yes.

So when battery is > ~12.x volts alternator does not charge. Console displays actual voltage of battery. When < ~12.x volts alternator kicks on and display reads alt voltage of ~14 volts.

Seems normal to me.

No that was not the case the car stayed in the 12 volt range for 3 days. Now she stays at 14+ all the time.
