2018 Mustang GT vs 2018 BMW M4

So my dad just picked up his 2018 BMW M4 Competition Package today. Its a Inline Twin-Turbo 6 with 444 hp and 406 tq. When I get my 2018 Mustang GT in May I want to race him and see who pulls on who. Anyone have any experience with this match-up or any thoughts on which car is probably faster in a straight line? I believe they also have approx the same weight of 3,500-4,000 pounds.

Yea he got it in the 7 speed Automatic Dual Clutch... so what about the car makes it faster even thought it weighs about the same and mustang has more HP?

The m4 weights little less and it is underrated from the factory. They do 118-120 easy.

But if your mustang is an auto should be a good race.

haha thanks I will tell him you said. I really love that he did the red and blue combo (superman). He also has a 2013 ZR1 with 3,000 miles its a beast.

pretty sure those things are substantially lighter. i read somewhere like 3600lbs and you are prob 4200 which means i think youll get a good look at his tails lol

BMW's are torque monsters and have tons of it down low. But in the end, it comes down to what transmission they are fitted with. The winner is your family, because I think you'll learn that it's a driver's race. The Mustang has better modulation and can potentially have better launches in the wild, but BMW electronics keeps things much more managed than a human would. (= mindless power)


IMO, the Mustang will win the emotional race.

2018 GT Auto can pull 3.9 with PP and Magneride, however, the best I've seen from a manual is about 4.2. The DCT M4 should pull 3.8-3.9.

The BMW, but it'll break down and start leaking oil about the 5th race in.

I actually just traded in my 2017 F80 M3 with competition pack and 7 speed DCT for a 2018 A10 with 401A and pp.

The M3s strength is also its downfall. Anyone that has owned one and is honest will tell you that it simply has too much torque too soon (there is a reason why the new M5 went to an all wheel drive hybrid system). Even in 3rd gear the traction control light would constantly blink and the launch control system is not nearly as sophisticated as Audi.

Once it gets going though... the top end makes it very, very fast. If you had an auto then technically the 2018 GT has consistently been running faster times than your typical M3 equipped with launch control that was calibrated during the Renaissance . I would think with just a light tune you would be door to door in most situations.

Your dad has a beautiful M4. I had mineral grey with sakhir orange interior. That S55 engine... is the smoothest engine I have ever driven that makes that kind of power.

You forgot the cooling system will fail also.

A guy on my local mustang club page said he beat an M4 from a dig without too much trouble. YMMV
