I was doing some window shopping for half shaft upgrade and found the gt350 half shaft kit for about 400. Question is are these worth the upgrade, just need something that can hold 400-500whp range on dr tires.

The DSS shafts are $800-$900 more expensive.

If/when my stock half shafts go, I will upgrade to the GT350 ones. I don't plan on making more than around 400 whp with my GT, so I think they'll be fine.

Unless we start hearing about failures of these, which I have yet to come across.

I have GT350 half shafts in mine. Not that much different than stock.

Why did you change, did you break your original? Are these holding up under hard launches? When you say not much different, in what respect? They are slightly beafier, but what other differences do you expect?

Thanks

One is slightly larger diameter, I cant remember which side. The other side is almost identical to stock GT half shaft. I changed because I was trying to eliminate a popping noise in the rear end. Changed outer wheel bearings, half shafts, etc. Stupid Torsen diff just pops no matter what. I dont do hard launches, I road course mine so I cant really help there.

Left side is slightly larger, that's the one that fails. But its not only the thickness, they are designed to uphold GT350 power levels, so basically stock GTs with minor power increases should be just fine with these. That is my hope.

I have yet to hear any GT350 axles breaking, whether it be on a GT350 or a GT, but having said that, most GT350s aren't drag raced all that much so it might simply be a lack of a sample pool.

OP, if 400HP (pretty much stock) is all you're doing, don't bother. Unless you drive like a retarded monkey.

You shouldn't break anything.

You can't put slicks and skinnies on the car so you probably won't hear about many GT350's breaking half shafts at all. So far so good on those big boosted cars like the twin turbo and high output ProCharger kits. But again, no shock launches with fatties in the rear.

Actually running slicks would likely save your half shafts. The slicks absorb alot of the shock on hard launches.

Its the drag radials that could be more violent to driveline components, especially in a manual car.

Exactly, but still the question is there can they take the abuse from dr?

I'll know later this summer. I ordered a set last week, will install this spring. I have a set of drag radials ready to go as well. *fingers crossed*

I have been hunting around trying to find where anyone has broken one of these and still cant. There have to be a couple of gt350s that have hard launched radials by now.

Kinda reminds me of wheel hop.. stop the hop kits all the rage. I can launch the bejesus outta my car, never had wheel hop once. Radials, Drag Radials, bias ply, notta. So, for me, no need for the kit. Same with axle shafts, IF they break that's when I'll replace em.

I found this picture recently and it looks like the gt350 half shaft are a step above. Top is GT and bottom is Gt350.
