Are any of you mixing e85 with 91 to get 93 octane? I didn’t know there was such a thing but a guy told me he does the last night.

It's called flex fuel and there are flex fuel tunes that take this into account. Just splashing in E85 and pretending you have 93 with no tune revision is going to be a bad time.

I heard of flex fuel but I thought with that tune it's one or the other.... either e85 or 91/93. Whipple stage 2 tune is tuned for 93 I believe. This guy is convinced that with his "calculator" I could mix x number of gallons of 91 and x number of gallons of e85 (tested at 60% ethanol) and I could be at 93.

Mixing E85 and Pump gas "works" but is technically playing with fire.

You are just relying on the cars widebands to try and correct for the change in Stoich

People also dump paint thinner in their tanks for "octane boost"
So ya, there's that.

Thanks for the clarification... yeah I'm not going to be messing with this mixture thing

If you are wanting to mix to get 93 octane, mix with something like MS109 (105 R+M/2) 2 gallons per full take will give you just under 93 octane...

I may just look into boostane... seem to be hearing a lot of good things about that product

Flex fuel can work but I'm pretty sure many tuners won't tune forced induction setups using flex fuel since it's basically guessing the mixture.

VP Racing Octanium is what was recommended to me. I used to mix that with my 93 to diagnose false knock. They sell at it the major auto parts stores for ~$20/bottle.

I just run full E85 now, though.

If you want decent safe power for pump gas just run a can of Octanium in each tank like mentioned, Or just get a fuel system and run E85..

I have experimented with a couple gallons of E85 in with 91 and while it does work and it does allow for more timing advance, I did not feel comfortable with it. Boostane/Octanium and even the Lucas stuff in the red bottle all work great.

I do flex tunes all the time for GM guys.

But Fords don't have the same method of precision control for blending
Well not at least as far as I have dived into.

We're on Mustang6G so we're talking coyote mustangs lol.

How come flex fuel sensors aren't more common with these cars?

I would stick with using Torco or Octanium.

If you wanted to get serious take a look at methanol injection. That will bring you up way past 93 level while using 91 in the gas tank.

You’re in a tough spot OP. I would go with meth. 91 tune with meth. Nothing aggressive but enough to avoid knock. These cars shine with good timing. Meth will come on only at WOT so you don’t waste it like octanium or Torco, which can get expensive at slightly over $20 per bottle.
