Hi,

I noticed this morning that my seatbelt is slightly frayed around one edge  Here's what it looks like: (look right at my chest):

picture.jpg

Should I be concerned? My bumper-to-bumper warranty ran out...

I have used the little strap on the seat back (to guide the belt and make it easier to fasten the belt when you get in) since the car was new. When the belt retracts, this section of the belt is inside the B pillar.

I'm wondering if the velcro on one of my winter coats might have been grabbing at the edge...

Mine is doing the same thing. It's a little lower down on the belt when it's across my chest. I will be taking the car to the dealership for another issue on Tuesday and plan to ask about this. Mine is still under warranty, but from checking prices on replacements, it looks to be about $300-500.

Some restraint items are covered beyond the 3-36 bumper to bumper warranty FYI

I'd just trim the fuzz of with sharp scissors and use a lighter to lightly melt/seal the edge.

Last time I checked seat belts should be covered 10 years by manufacturers, have them check it out.

Then you get in a crash and that compromised seat belt fails to stop your face from smashing the airbag/steering wheel. No thanks.

I sent my service advisor some pictures. He said he'd get back to me next week.

Let us know how that works out. I would not classify the OP's picture of his belt compromised. That's 5000 pound test webbing. Seat belts get 5 years of warranty from Ford.

Here’s what mine looks like. It’s not a huge area, but it’s deep. Almost like it’s fraying from the inside out.

Service advisor sent pictures and claim to Ford, but doesn't think it will even need the pictures to be approved for replacement. I should know next week.
