I can no longer keep this a secret. After a year of looking, 3 dealers screwing me over on an allocation, multiple people saying that getting a R for a reasonable price won't happen, yes I was one of those people, I finally found my R. I was looking on the interwebs just for fun and came across a R in Port Lavaca Texas. It was listed for $83,395 but I called anyway. It was late and the sales manager was the only one left in the dealership.
We did the normal "how do you do's" and so on and so forth before I ask, "so what will you sell the R at?" He said,"well we're entertaining all offers but the GM said we could do 10k over. I said "I'll do it for sticker" expecting a small laugh and hang up, he said, "well let me ask the GM when he gets back in the store in the morning."
I get a call at around 9:00 the next morning from the sales manager. "Well the GM said we can accept 2k over." To be honest I was ready to put down the $5,000 non refundable deposit. But, being the stubborn ass I am I said "man I can't go over sticker." He said he would talk to the GM and shoot me an email.
I received an email about 2 hours later saying, "I'll eat the 2k and do it for MSRP" Fast forward about two days and we worked out a deal to trade my truck for about $3,000 more than it was worth, basically roped the dealer fees into the trade. It was the right deal, the right color combo, the right dealership, and the right time for sure.
No I know one concern is the recent events that transpired down in south Texas with Hurricane Harvey. Coming from someone in Arkansas and listening to the weather reports and news coverage, I figured all of south Texas was wiped off the map. I called about 20 different business ranging from Tractor Supply to banks to hotels to gas stations. All of whom said the same thing. "We had a lot of wind and some rain but no flooding. After getting down there, the only real damage I saw were signs missing, some shingles, and a bit of metal roof damage.
So after we taped the front of the car, my girlfriend and I hopped in and drove the 700 miles from south Texas to home staying the night in Dallas and my aunt's place. The car couldn't even get in their driveway. Oh yeah I forgot to mention, this is my new daily driver. I'll be doing a review later as well as a 1000 mile review in about 3 days when I cross it lol. Needless to say I didn't buy this car to collect. I hope to eventually own the R with the most miles on it and the most smiles in it.
Thanks for reading!
