Really apprehensive about doing it, but with plenty of searches and You Tube video I went or it. Since most here know how to do it I will touch on only a few thoughts:

I used a freezer Zip Lock bag wrapped around the oil filter and caught 80-90% of the oil. Left little mess and highly recommend especially if you are on the ground.

Upon completion of replacing the filter I decided to drive to the dealership and get a new drain plug for $2.99. (Cheap insurance.) All I can say is that it goes on way too easy and makes me wonder how it stays on.

I marked the filter and engine block with a Sharpie to monitor the filter to see if it loosens. I left off the access panel for the time being.

If I count my time, this oil change cost me way more than the dealer.

Try the hose clamp trick to prevent the filter from potentially backing off - easier than visually monitoring.

Maybe I'll add it. I am curious to see if I torqued it properly, so I'll give a few hundred miles.

Why risk it? Just put on the hose clamp and be done with it and drive the car worry free. :headbang:

I use the hose clamp on my filter and in my mind it is cheap insurance from a big time headache if the filter comes loose.

Also, I completely agree with you on the drain plug. When I did my first oil change and I replaced it with a new one from the dealer I thought the same thing that the plug went in too easy and did not seem snug. So far so good, no oil leaks so maybe I am just used to the old school drain bolt.

What size hose clamp? You'll save me from crawling under the car to measure.

Honestly I’m not sure because I took my oil filter to NAPA and had them size a hose clamp for it. I think it was 3” but again not sure, sorry.

Search for 'Oil filter do they loosen’ in the GT350 forum and look on page 3, there is a nice picture showing the filter with a hose clamp on it.

Here is video I found. Tightening the clamp nut while the car on the ground looks like it would be difficult.

Mine's not coming open!

I have not read one report of issues with the drain plug. So this might be a bit of overkill.
