just curious to see if anyone changed to a heavier oil for little more protection after going boosted? If so what oil and weight and your experience with it.
You should be going with a better oil, especially one with increase sheer resistance, over a thicker one.
Increasing the viscosity of oil is only really for times when you are exceeding the normal oil temps and you want something thicker as to no thin out as much. But for your application, you're better off with a high quality oil in the 5W20 or 5W30 range rather than say a basic 5W40 or 5W50.
You should check your oil temps and figure out what is happening with your oil's viscosity. If you are doing short little rips and driving the car to work, 5w20 is probably fine. If you're going to track the car or otherwise really heat the oil up it will be way too thin if you run 5w20. Keep in mind 5w20 was selected to work from Houston to Anchorage. It's not necessarily optimal for your environment and use of car. I run 10w40 Motul Chrono V in mine because it's right about the thickness you want for a car I beat the piss out of and track. I generate a lot of heat and also I live in a hot climate, 5w20 was never optimal here to begin with.
I run 5w20 amsoil signature series with a Whipple, but if I was turbocharged I’d prollly go 5w30-40 for the heat. Like mentioned above, if you track the car also go up in viscosity. Either way, look up amsoil signature series and then go buy it.
