If you do the work yourself that number is still way off. A good 2015 F150 5.0 with about 30k miles goes for around $3k on LKQ. That with a used 6r80 ($1000) accounts for most of the cost. You will then need PCM ($150), Motor mounts ($100) , engine harness ($250), alternator ($60 used), ac compressor (about $200 used), and misc hoses and connectors. I am not accounting for an exhaust system since that can vary wildly depending on setup.Yes, however he said even with used parts you would still be ball parked 12k
