There's a guy on TMO who's building a GT350 race car out of his wrecked GT350 and an S550 body-in-white from Ford Performance. The monocoque is the same for both - the front clip and all of the stuff within it bolts on.

No way Ford will do a redesign on the for one model year (or part of model year). So if there is a 2019 GT350, it will be the same as the 2018 GT350...which was the same as the 2017 GT350. Only difference would be color choices. That and the R-electronics package will be standard on the GT350R (as it will be on 2018 models starting in April).

So no real reason to wait for a 2019 GT350 if you can get your hands on a 2017 or 2018 at a good price. Unless you think a color you really want may be in the works for 2019.

About the only cost effective way to do it.

I'm sure it wasn't cost effective.

You can find S550 Body in whites from $1 to like $10k, some times companies or shops have them, and they just want to unload them.

Mildly hit GT350s seems to hovers around 30K.

I can see it being advantageous from a cost perspective, as generally most of the components you would be swapping, have to be removed and potentially refitted anyhow when building a race car.

So a fairly large portion of the labor and piece cost would be present regardless if you are building a GT350 based racecar. The biggest difference is you didn't pay 45K to 60K to get the GT350 to strip down.

The delta in GT350 new/used to salvage price would likely offset any replacement panels or closure costs.

They redesigned the 2013 Boss 302 for 1 year, No excuse for Ford not to give the GT350 a bit of a facelift, especially if its going to continue onto 2019.

For did not redesign anything on the Boss 302 all they did was put the s197 refresh front end and tail lights. Big difference from the S550 and the GT350

When the Boss 302 program launched in 2009 under internal code 747 Ford always had intended to build the new generation Boss 302 cars for only two model years just as they did back in 1969 and 1970.

In addition it was always planned for the Boss cars to have different body styles, interior changes, front splitters, rear tail lights, colors and stripe differences for each separate model year.

That was certainly not the case with the GT350 cars starting back in 2015 whereby it was never guaranteed by Ford to have only a 2 year run but at the same time there was no plan in place to redesign and retool the FR assembly plant some 4 years later for just a one year run in 2019.

So any more concrete news in this front?

I think I’ve read carryover again, no engine changes. Perhaps a transmission change?

But I doubt it.

Can't comment on a 2019 GT350/R carryover as that is still up in the air but would suggest that the total production numbers for the 2018MY will not exceed ~450 R models with less than ~30 base R models out of that total production number.

And, even if they do a run of '19 GT350s, there will likely be no more base R models ever after this April, unless they come up with just a camera and monitor work-around to satisfy the new federal law without having to spec the full 67S electronics package.

I was told yesterday by my local dealer their rep confirmed MY 2019 Shelby will be the GT350. They had a late allocation 2018 they supposedly ordered with convenience package, which is what I would prefer, but it ended up electronics package on the sticker generated. Not sure if Ford can just change that (if they ran out of seats) or if my dealer didn't understand the difference between the two.

Don't understand the lol, is it in regards to GT500 debacle? Or is this information wildly wrong? To clarify, they were trying to get info knowing I was upset as they wanted to find out if I would be willing to wait for 2019 MY if Ford was still making them.

Not sure I can wait that long...
