I haven't updated in a while cause I haven't really had anything to do on the car lately. Which is nice. But hey, the bank didn't pay $20k for this car for me NOT to ruin it. So let's go.

Most of my spare time lately has been filled working on organizing and running local drift events. Me and my friends got tired of the laughable local events that were just stagnating and horribly unorganized. So we reached out to Petty and Tim and got a new chapter of Club Loose opened down here. It's super exciting, the events have been awesome, we're getting a lot of driver loyalty, and we've made a really rad relationship with the local race track. So good, in fact, that they are going to start making some major improvements later this summer as per our suggestions.

After closing on my house, I placed an order with with TF Works for a Kaaz 2 way LSD and a Nardi wheel. I also found some cheap model 5 center caps on YAJ after looking FOREVER. Dudes on zilvia want like $200 for those things.

Not a lot of people have done aftermarket wheels in these cars yet, and the few that have, have been straight race cars and they didn't care about the creature comforts like steering wheel controls, horn, or air bag lights. So I set out to find a way to retain all of those things, as cleanly as possible. It started by modifying the clock spring and running the ribbon cable down the steering column and then routing it into the harness for the buttons.

I then removed the sunglasses tray thats next to the driver door and cut that to fit the buttons and wiring. It unfortunately didn't turn out as clean as I would've liked, so I'll be printing a panel to place there and mount the buttons to. But for the time being, it works and isn't too much of an eyesore, since it still retracts in and stays in unless I need to access the cruise control buttons.

Then I just wired up resistors for the airbag light, installed some rubber grommets over the existing ones on the clock spring to retain the auto-off function for the turn signals, and put on the hub, quick release, and steering wheel. You can see how the info center button sits to the left of the wheel. The only thing I didn't get around to doing was wiring up the horn, but that can come later. I have 10 months left on inspection. Oh and I put in an e-brake button too that some dude in Canada made.

It really changes the way the car feels and looks on the interior IMO and couldn't be happier. The diff will be going in later this summer, I'm gonna change up the gearing at the same time. I'm going to scoop a 3.73 ring gear to change it up from the factory 3.31. The stock LSD in these is... okay but it's not predictable enough. I drove someone else's car with a 1.5 way and was sold on it.

I still love this car and it's only getting better. And the T-Bird is doing great too.

Of course man! It's a slightly different path than most S550s so I try to document as much of the weird stuff I run into as possible for others.

Lots of talent and effort here, I really enjoy this build! Purpose-built and form-follows-function. Love it!

Thanks! I really try to balance the two but I’ve gotta admit, I’m a sucker for style.

Here’s some footage from the last event we had!

Got some more stuff done. Finally put my Kaaz 2 way in, and changed up the final drive from a stock 3.31 ----> 3.73.

I also changed up the look of the rear bumper. I ripped off the old diffuser, which was made for the car and fit well, and bought a more aggressive one off ebay that doesn't fit. I thought, "I worked on shitty fiberglass kits for years, surely I can make this work," I wasn't totally wrong.
I hated how it looked when it came in, but set about with the dremel and started hacking it up.

I also pulled off the rear bumper, and cleaned all the black plastidip off the bottom.

I also put on a bigger front mount from one of the other members here, so I can finally get a REAL tune on this thing.

Took it to the first event with the 2 way and 3.73 gears last weekend. I only brought one set of used tires, so I only got about 12-14 laps in, but GOD DAMN what a difference. I feel a lot more confident on transitions, knowing the diff will stay locked, and it's a lot smoother than it used to be. In drift, it just wants to hang in the 5k rpm range which is perfect. The more I mess with this car, the more I fall in love with it.

I'll be parked up in either the BC or Ford booth at FD Texas next weekend, so lets drink beers and stuff if you're going.

Damn, drifting has always looked like fun. Not your typical build at all. Really like how your car has turned out.

I like your floormats. Do they make them in blue?

They do, but they currently don't make any for our cars yet. These are Focus RS ones. I emailed them already and asked, and they said S550 mats are on the way.
