There was never a 2017 cut off announced by Ford. It was Mustang forum members speculating it was going to follow the Boss 302 plan and dealers trying to drive up demand to justify ADMs. All indications from the leaked document showed the FPC going beyond the 17MY.

Now there are strong indications the GT350 will see life again in MY19. Nothing officially confirmed by Ford yet so treat it as a rumor for now.
I thought there was an article similar to this one with a representative saying that GT350 production would go on until 2017? I really don't take ANYTHING on that document as gospel, as there's a lot of info on there that has already been debunked (Ex. 2018 7.0 V8)

I edited my post while you were replying...

You're right the engine doc isn't gospel as things are always subject to change. If we go back to the 2007 GT500 that was supposed to be limited to and went all the way through 2014 with various revisions. Ford's all over the place with their production so it's hard for me to trust anything they say, which is normally vague to begin with.

To be fair they did hold true to the 2015 GT 50TH LE Anniversary model in terms of years (year in this case) and numbers produced. I wish they would have done the 137 2015 GT350's in the Wimbledon White with Blue stripes like the original. That would have been truly collectible.

I agree with Havasu, the 350/350R are in separate leagues completly. Realistically speaking the bullitt is just a GT with a killer paint job and CAI/IM from factory. However, that doesn't stop me from lusting after it like a wild dog.

And on the whole value thing, cars are always a depreciating investment so drive the wheels of it and enjoy it.

BTW does anyone plan on modding their bullitt?

Probably, it has the name "Shelby" and "Ford Performance" attached to it. Over the years, SVT products retain their value pretty well. That's been my experience in the various SVT products that I've owned, compared to the 08 Bullitt I bought new and traded in on a new 12 Boss a few years ago.

I am seriously considering the Bullitt, but I'm going into it knowing that my current Shelby / GT-350 will hold it's value better 10 years from now. Part of me is looking for a bit less car, and the Shelby is pretty aggressive and gets lots of attention when you are out and about.

I really liked my 08 Bullitt car. If it had had a Coyote motor, I would have kept it a lot longer.
I haven't looked at old S197 GT500 pricing in a while, but I do know that 08 Bullitts go for way more money than a regular 2008 Mustang GT with similar miles. There's still 08 Bullitts going for 20k.

I personally don't care if the value tanks since I'll never sell mine, but for those that do, I think they'll fair much better than if they bought a regular GT.

Lots of people have been asking me why I don't just buy a used GT350 for the same money and I agree about the Shelby being aggressive. I love them but the tall gearing makes the Shelby's higher redline hard to enjoy on the street if you value your license. I'm hoping the Bullitt is the sweet spot gearing/power wise.

The 18MY MT82 gearing is closer to the Shelby than the 17MY. I believe 1st in the Shelby runs out at 57, and the PP 18MY (which the Bullitt seems to be) runs out at 50. The 17MY with the lower redline ran out around 42.

Thanks for the numbers, I hadn't seen a gearing chart yet for the 2018s. I knew it was a little taller, at least it's not quite as tall as the Shelby.

This.

Coyote power would have made my '09 perfect, and probably a keeper.

What transmission is the Bullitt using? I have to say, one of the BEST things about the GT-350 is the shifting/transmission/shifter.

I remember not caring much for the transmission/shifter in my 12 Boss, much of which was fixed by installing a MGW unit. It sounds like some of these issues have been addressed with the tranny that will be in the Bullitt?
I've heard from a few 18 owners that the clutch and shifter are easier and smoother to use now, so the Bullitt will benefit from those 2018 changes as well. I haven't driven one yet but I'm excited to try it. The clutch engagement is the only thing I don't love about my 2016 sometimes. Not very precise or easy to use compared to other modern manual clutches. I have no complaints with the shifter itself.

I've used the MGW unit in the past, but the shifter wasn't the problem with my '13 Boss. Wide open throttle, on the back straight of COTA, the transmission was so torqued that it wouldn't shift. Going into 5th required a big pause, as a result I only got to 152 MPH back there. Probably the bushings of the transmission mount were the issue. Of course the MT82 has - and I believe still has - all sorts of other problems one of which is cooling. It only has 1/3rd the fluid capacity of the BW 6-speed transmission used in the old GT500, for example. The little scoop that Ford offered was laughable. And of course the brakes were so poor on the Boss that 152 was probably the limit for that turn anyway... and the POS solid axle hopped and skipped and brake-dived, etc etc. The '15s suspension improved all of that... and was better yet if properly equipped with coolers.

Have you tried the Steeds clutch assist spring? A small and inexpensive mod that made mine a bit more bearable.

I tried the spring removal on my EcoBoost and I don't think it helped much and only made the clutch heavier. I'm guessing the Steeda spring would have helped with the weight but the feel still wasn't great to me.
