The last version of the GT 500 was formally introduced at the NY Auto Show in March 2005. The car came out as for the 2007 my.

I was kind of thinking Ford would do the same thing since the next gen GT500 is being teased.

The press release parties for this years NY Auto show are today and tomorrow. I haven’t heard a peep....anyone have any reliable info on the bog reveal?

New York's big reveal will be the Lincoln Aviator.

I'm thinking Ford will choose to avoid a show and perhaps hold their own reveal somewhere, or do it online. When though? Who knows :D

GT500 is a 2020MY, so the earliest will be the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. Too early to show the real car in 2018.

Not sure if I agree Z, the 2007 GT500 was revealed in March 2005 at the auto show. A 2020 GT500 is really only 15-18 months from going on sale. We’re in that window now

Well, marketing games changes constantly, but from a logical point of view, they need to keep the fire going close to the reveal time frame. Just like Dodge did with Hellcat and Demon and when they announced it, shortly after dealers were ready to take orders.

If GT500 had gone the route of TT, I'd would wait, but since they went the same old route of slapping a S/C on the top of a 5.2, then there isn't much innovative there than a ZL1 or Hellcat already in the market.

Both the Hellcat and ZL1 are chock full of innovation and the GT500 will be no different. Ford has learned quite a bit from previous S550 and S197 efforts. Coupled with the feedback they have been getting from numerous motorsport fronts, the GT500 will easily be their best effort to date. I think Ford clearly understands that it has to be.

And my concern is the weight of the s550 chassis. People in the know are saying it's going to be a 4100 # car. This car needs to be much less. I'm sure it will be chock full of innovation, but the car stands to weigh a lot.

Couple of days ago, I was watching a drag race video between a Z05 and a Civic. And the Civic destroyed the Z06... Why? A lot less weight to move!

FAT cars don't move!

I refuse to believe the Ford engineers have not found ways to reduce the weight of the GT500 in the last two years.

And people still want all the creature comforts.
And the government mandates a bunch of safety stuff.

Know how to drop weight? Rip out all the stuff that has nothing to do with going fast.

I onwed a 13 GT500. Endless torque and power. Loved the car for staight line performance but it was a pig and handled like a F150. With The new chassis design, IRS and if they choose massive amounts of carbon fiber and aluminum, the possibly can getthis car down in weight
