I would imagine if there's one coming that it would have a larger NA engine, higher end finishes in the interior, Nav, Shaker system and nice wheels etc. Depending on how it looked I can't say I would not be interested in it over the GT350...

To be honest I don't see Ford coming out with any Special editions this year. They are marketing the 50th anniversary and have 4 models available. I think they will play this out this year.

Mach 1 has been a big seller for Ford over time. Of the 9 million Mustangs sold in the last 50 years, more than a half million were Mach 1's. Many people don't realize that Mach 1's were built in 12 model years. I've personally owned a couple of Mach 1's and would be keenly interested in an S550 Mach 1, especially if it were built with a bigger displacement (or at least bigger torque) V8 and a suspension built to withstand the rigors of drag racing.

I was incredibly surprised that there was no Mach 1 on the S197 platform. I would be amazed and heartbroken if we didn't see an S500 Mach 1.

Mach 1 replaced GT for many years.

Mach 1- '69-'78, '03-'04
No GT- '70-'83

Only made GT & Mach 1 in '69, '03 & '04

**probably have my dates wrong. I'm not a historian. sorry if they're wrong.

That said, I think there's room for Mach1 (or Boss) between GT & GT350. But I don't think Ford has a bigger engine.

Which engine do you have in mind?

The Mach 1 was primarily made to counter the threats that the SS396 Camaro and 440x6/Hemi Challengers/Cudas posed. Prior to that the hottest regular production Mustang you could get was the (expensive) 1968 428 Cobra Jet Mustang and the GT with the 390.

In today's world ideally you would see a Mach 1 built to counter the 392 R/T Challengers (the Scat Packs). Take a normal 5.0 (not the GT350 motor), take it out to 5.2, take the redline up to 7,200, 475HP/420TQ and pair it either to the 6A or 6M with 3.55's standard and 3.73's optional and you'll have a Mach 1 that can fight the 392's on their own terms.

We did start hearing about the Mach 1 rumors around the same time we heard about the GT350.

I would love to see a new one, but I don't know where it would line up. You have the GT starting at 30K and the GT350 around 50K from the looks of things. It seems like 40K would be a good price, but the 03-04 Mach 1's were loaded with every option standard. A loaded 15 goes for around 44K. Meaning if Ford were to load a new Mach 1 with every option, it would be in the GT350 range.

So we'll see, Ford has surprised us before. I really want one! I also agree with 1320', I would see it being a Challenger SRT 392 competitor.

What I get from the comments here it sounds like it would be too narrow of a market to have a Mach 1 between the GT and the GT350.

It would be great if Ford found a way to bump displacement in the Coyote, or otherwise get 30+ horse out of it in order to differentiate it from the GT.

I sat in a new GT w/ Recaros the other day. The quality of the leather was a little budget. The design of the interior however is really good. All Ford would have to do to compete with the likes of the M4, RS5 etc would be to offer better quality materials in the interior as I think the car is solid overall. Nappa leather on the seats and door panels would go a long way. Deviant stitching, Mach 1 logo here and there, maybe some carbon fiber etc. I could see the Mach 1 being that model.

IMO if there is room for it within the next few years, it would mean the GT350 would be priced pretty high or only be a few year production. A Mach 1 would have to be more like a modern Bullitt in terms of features and price for it to make sense to slot between the GT and GT350.

I like this idea.

A while back, I posted a "wishlist" thread for the coming year's of S550. Here's what I wrote :)

"'17MY
Mach 1 reintroduced - DI 5.0 with 475hp, 10-speed auto/paddle shifters, revised front and rear fascias, Premium Plus interior with full leather extending to doors and dash, 20" wheels and Perf Pack as standard."

For me it needs to be a gentleman's muscle car. So, plenty of power, but matched to a luxurious interior with all the toys.

This would leave the GT with similar, or slightly less power, but with the option to have it in base spec without toys.

I don't see one until 2017 or 2018 just before the refresh. Hopefully they will revise the intake. This will necessitate modifying the hood to make room. Getting the motor to 450HP would be a nice step.

Crazy cool would be introducing an EcoBoost motor instead. I would love to see a 5.0 version of the Voodoo in a lesser model. I just don't know if it makes much sense however.

There will be a Mustang offered with that 3.5 Ecoboost. There's too much potential in that motor for it not to land in a Mustang.

I'm hoping and holding out for one. I'd be happy w/ the coyote, but with the gt350 tranny, and a premium interior WITHOUT leather. And a shaker hood. Oh, and ditch those black wheels!!
