Same area? If you open the hood does it look like it started at the bead of sealer just under the lip?

OP, I think you have the distinction of being the first to post a photo of this. Shoot. I was hoping we would not see this on this generation. The metal formulation and manufacturing process were supposedly changed to address this.

Let us know what you find out when you take it in, as well as you, V6junkie.

Yeah.....lucky me!

However, right about now, I am soooo glad a bought a white one so it can be spotted in. That is the old 'glass is half full' mentality.

Maybe they did not clean it thoroughly before painting so the primer is not bonding to the metal creating pockets for the moisture to trap between the metal and the paint causing corrosion.
Gotta love Ford quality. I just got on of the back wheel replaced on my brand new 16 due to paint imperfection. There was a spot missing paint.

So is only the top/outer skin of the hood aluminum and the bottom/inner layer steel? If so, then there would be two dis-similar metals at the seams, and I thought that was supposedly the primary cause of the corrosion starting (?).

That is a great question. It might account for the weight.

My dealer said that they 'undercoat' the hood on the F150 'all-aluminum' pickup whenever the owner requests 'undercoating'. They had complaints about aluminum corrosion on quite a few of the older Mustangs that had aluminum hoods.

May be acting as a sacrificial metal, I wonder if some sort of grounding upgrade would fix this issue.

Blood of a virgin?

May be able to bolt some aluminum blocks somewhere to get eaten instead of the hood... Sacrificial metal corrosion is weird as fuck.
