Kia GT4 Stinger gives me GR-1 and DeTomaso Pantera vibes.

Not stuck, or bound to history like most makes they can incorporate the latest trends with basically any direction they please. I think they've nailed this, and could be a thorn in the side of the Foured Mustang.

I seriously like this. Kinda reminds of an old Datsun Z. I'd rock this if it was a sub $20k car.

If that things comes in between $20k-30k it will be a winner. If it is factory turbo then it's aftermarket support will grow very quickly.

The other thing that excites me about this is if Kia brings this to market to combat the Toybaru it creates competition. Maybe we'll finally see a Miata-based coupe to fight, too. Maybe Honda gets off its ass and brings out an S2000 successor.

We could have a whole new Asian-market small sports coupe race.

I'm afraid they're basing this on the Genesis Coupe platform. That puts it in Mustang territory. I'm hoping I was misreading the article.

You did. It's a couple inches longer than the Genesis Coupe. The Genesis is relatively large and heavy since it shares the platform with a large sedan.

I think this is its own beast.

From the Jalopnik Article:

What's interesting is the platform. There's only one way that Kia could develop a 2+2 rear-drive sports car, and that's by reworking the Genesis coupe by their partner Hyundai.
Seems like it wouldn't be the same size as a BRZ then.

A little longer doesn't bother me, I'd rather have a back seat that my daughter can sit in when she's 12 instead of 6.

But weight is the biggest deal, 305 HP in a sub 3000 lb. car...I'm interested.

Looks like it won't be built anytime soon, if at all. If/when/since the smaller sporty car market starts eating away at Mustang sales the push for even more attention to handling will definitely find its way into the pony car market. I think those cars are neat but I wouldn't want to own one as my only car.

This might push Kia to build the GT4. Nissan says they'll build a street version of this:
