Re-dye GT350R Steering Wheel Leather

I just bought a GT350R steering wheel from another forum member, and while the Alcantara is in great shape, the red leather centering stripe looks a little beat up, like maybe a ring caught it in a few places. In any case, I'm sure it can be repaired. I usually do stuff like this myself, but wanted to know if anyone has ever painted or dyed leather. I'm worried that if I just go in with some dye, I'll end up messing up the Alcantara.

Is this something that's better left to an interior upholstery shop, and if so, does anyone have a recommendation near Orlando, FL?
