Our car comes with just 390 CCA battery from the factory. Gee even the GM battery I just replaced in my beater 2005 Buick has more (710 CCA) No wonder if you don't put a battery tender on battery in winter even if you don't drive it much I read a lot that our battery will a lot of times go dead in a week from all the stuff drawing amps if left sit that long. Wouldn't a higher CCA battery help with that? If so does any one know of a way higher CCA battery that is the same size as factory one that fits right in and still use the battery cover. Thanks

Not going to happen! You'll have to look at lithium race batteries.

Our battery is size 67R: 390CCA, 65 min reserve capacity, 24.5lbs, 2yr warranty
I believe a 96R will fit: 590CCA, 95 min reserve capacity, 30.5lbs, 3yr warranty

Be the first to test it out for us. Advanced Auto Parts, AutoZone, and PepBoys carry 96Rs, $103 at PepBoys on sale now!

If it fits, I may replace mine now just for the hell of it, 390 CCA is ridiculous, never heard of a battery with such a low CCA, other than maybe a ride on mower battery, lol.

My R came with a 96R 590CCA battery so I do know it fits.

My 16 R came with a BXT-99RT4 rated at 390CCA. I'm amazed at how crappy a battery this is. In almost no down time at all it is struggling to turn the engine over.

Yup thats the battery in all the GT 350's. My 17 has it and there is a new 17 on my dealership showroom floor with the same thing. But if the R has the 96 R with 590CCA as stated in an earlier post then maybe thats the way to go. Its got to be the same size battery fitting in the case with cover over it. Ford as far as I know didn't change the battery case size or cover between the GT 350 and the GT 350 R. I just don't get it why they put such a weak CCA battery in our cars. Some say weight but gee it can't be that much difference than a much higher CCA battery would be.

The last time I had the battery cover off to remove my negative terminal while I was installing my cooler pump I noticed extra room in there, the 96R is longer and 5 lbs more.

The 96R with 590 CCA is the standard battery for the Mustang GT.

Just read a review on the Bosch series 48 AGM battery that is over 700 cca's, a poster on the Pep Boys site claims a 48 fit in his Mustang, after removing "spacers"....

Right now PB is taking $50 off this AGM battery, so $150 clams, pretty good reviews on the Bosch and decent price. Might be worth a shot.

FYI a Group 47 Battery can also fit. Almost identical to a 96R.

XS Power D4700 (745CCA) will fit without any modification and is an AGM battery rather than a wet cell, which are much better in almost every way. CCA measures how much current the battery can put out at once, but not how long it can hold a charge for. For that, you want AGM.

The gel cell and the AGM batteries are specialty batteries that typically cost twice as much as a premium wet cell. However, they store very well and do not tend to sulfate or degrade as easily as wet cell. There is little chance of a hydrogen gas explosion or corrosion when using these batteries; they are the safest lead acid batteries you can use. Gel cell and some AGM batteries may require a special charging rate.

If you don't use or operate your equipment daily, AGM batteries will hold their charge better than other types. If you must depend on top-notch battery performance, spend the extra money. Gel Cell batteries still are being sold, but AGM batteries are replacing them in most applications.

But will our cables work on the XS Power D4700? The pictures of it looks like it takes the type of cables that bolt on.
