I haven't updated in a while cause I haven't really had anything to do on the car lately. Which is nice. But hey, the bank didn't pay $20k for this car for me NOT to ruin it. So let's go.
Most of my spare time lately has been filled working on organizing and running local drift events. Me and my friends got tired of the laughable local events that were just stagnating and horribly unorganized. So we reached out to Petty and Tim and got a new chapter of Club Loose opened down here. It's super exciting, the events have been awesome, we're getting a lot of driver loyalty, and we've made a really rad relationship with the local race track. So good, in fact, that they are going to start making some major improvements later this summer as per our suggestions.
After closing on my house, I placed an order with with TF Works for a Kaaz 2 way LSD and a Nardi wheel. I also found some cheap model 5 center caps on YAJ after looking FOREVER. Dudes on zilvia want like $200 for those things.
Not a lot of people have done aftermarket wheels in these cars yet, and the few that have, have been straight race cars and they didn't care about the creature comforts like steering wheel controls, horn, or air bag lights. So I set out to find a way to retain all of those things, as cleanly as possible. It started by modifying the clock spring and running the ribbon cable down the steering column and then routing it into the harness for the buttons.
I then removed the sunglasses tray thats next to the driver door and cut that to fit the buttons and wiring. It unfortunately didn't turn out as clean as I would've liked, so I'll be printing a panel to place there and mount the buttons to. But for the time being, it works and isn't too much of an eyesore, since it still retracts in and stays in unless I need to access the cruise control buttons.
Then I just wired up resistors for the airbag light, installed some rubber grommets over the existing ones on the clock spring to retain the auto-off function for the turn signals, and put on the hub, quick release, and steering wheel. You can see how the info center button sits to the left of the wheel. The only thing I didn't get around to doing was wiring up the horn, but that can come later. I have 10 months left on inspection. Oh and I put in an e-brake button too that some dude in Canada made.
It really changes the way the car feels and looks on the interior IMO and couldn't be happier. The diff will be going in later this summer, I'm gonna change up the gearing at the same time. I'm going to scoop a 3.73 ring gear to change it up from the factory 3.31. The stock LSD in these is... okay but it's not predictable enough. I drove someone else's car with a 1.5 way and was sold on it.
I still love this car and it's only getting better. And the T-Bird is doing great too.
