Thatās assuming the aspect ratio stays the same. In general itās easiest to maintain about the same total diameter (wheel+tire) to keep the speedo and other computers happy. 1 inch of diameter more in metal means 1 inch less in sidewall.
I'll be rocking my stock HPP wheels (wider than stock 18's I know) with the all seasons that came on the car for a while. I assume the original owner of the car swapped the summers for all seasons because of New England winters.
Just for clarity, Iām not going to do AutoX to win! Iām not expecting to be competitive at all, and am not by nature a very competitive person, except with myself (you bet your ass Iāll be trying to improve). I want to safely find the limits of my car and become a better driver.
I guess itās...
Thanks for the advice. Iāll be doing more significant mods as I progress for sure - budget wonāt always be an issue, but there have been some extra expenses in the past month with the house so Iām taking it slow.
I had the BRZ for 5 years. Why do you ask?
For performance you want the smaller wheel - lighter unsprung weight helps so many things. The smaller option will also give you better ride quality. To me itās a no brainer but you also have to love the way it looks, so if you prefer the look of the 20ās that may be the way to go.
Fortunately I work from home so if my car is out of action it wonāt affect me professionally, and can handle the cost of consumables. Breakage is an opportunity for upgrades! š
That's definitely on the bucket list. I'm doing a car control clinic with my wife in the spring that teaches basics on a skid pad and ends the day with an AutoX course. I've never done any formal training, or aggressive driving aside from messing around in empty parking lots and occasional...
Seat time will be happening im the spring time, and is a separate budget. Iām not sure if itāll be in a road course as well as doing autocross. Good tires are also on the list for spring - Iām planning to pick up a second set of wheels with good tires for warm weather, and to keep the factory...
Thanks! I should have been more clear - I do have a CVF street intercooler and a catch can, but the suspension is stock.
I appreciate everyoneās food for thought!
Hi All!
I have a dead stock 2020 Ecoboost HPP/HP that I picked up over the summer. I by no means consider myself an expert driver. Iām hoping to rectify that with training and AutoX next year. For context, Iām coming from a BRZ.
Future plans include a shock/spring upgrade and lighter wheels...
Are the coilovers at their maximum height? If not you could simply raise them up. I believe Fortune Auto does a range of spring rates, so you could also consider calling them up to discuss your goals, and seeing if a softer spring would get you there...
