  1. Dealer describes "Piston Slap" as a "Normal" characteristic of the 5.0 V8

I agree that this shouldn't be considered "normal" that the piston is making unwanted contact with cylinder wall and I told the Service Director as much. But now Ford seems to be playing games with me when I tried to schedule a follow-up, I was directed to talk to the service director first...
  2. Dealer describes "Piston Slap" as a "Normal" characteristic of the 5.0 V8

I just drained the oil this afternoon, my internet crapped out (I work from home) so it was back to the stone ages and I needed something to do. Overall it looked good (i.e. I couldn't see anything obvious). I put a bottle of ceratec in around 450 miles, so it looked different that I was used...
  3. Dealer describes "Piston Slap" as a "Normal" characteristic of the 5.0 V8

I guess that is the question, is it good or bad? Different sources or articles say, "not bad." Others say, "get it fixed" if it's a newer car. So the plan is to gather objective evidence and if it shows no issues, fine. If it does show an issue it is harder to dispute and I can move the process...
  4. Dealer describes "Piston Slap" as a "Normal" characteristic of the 5.0 V8

That does sound similar to what I'm hearing (a little difficult to hear in videos, which never quite capture the sound correctly). Yeah, I'll go through the steps to satisfy that it isn't an issue with the oil analysis and borescope. Again, it is the first V8 performance engine that I have ever...
  5. Dealer describes "Piston Slap" as a "Normal" characteristic of the 5.0 V8

I'm doing exactly this very thing this weekend. I plan to change the oil and filter and will send a sample to Blackstone. I also spoke with an independent mechanic and he said that the oil analysis may be the first best thing to do right now and see if there is excessive wear. I'm pulling the...
  6. Dealer describes "Piston Slap" as a "Normal" characteristic of the 5.0 V8

I agree. The dealer service tech also stated it was piston slap. So their statement that it was "normal" doesn't seem to be correct.
  7. Dealer describes "Piston Slap" as a "Normal" characteristic of the 5.0 V8

Agreed! This is why I'm trying to get the write up corrected since that is what the tech stated. I plan to go to Ford (for what that is worth).
  8. Dealer describes "Piston Slap" as a "Normal" characteristic of the 5.0 V8

Yeah, the dealer did hear the rapping and described it to me as piston slap. So they are aware and still called it "normal". I have asked them to revise the writeup to reflect what the tech stated and not be a generic write up. (They stated "noise is normal").
  9. Dealer describes "Piston Slap" as a "Normal" characteristic of the 5.0 V8

This is my first V8 so I'm getting used to what the engine sounds like. The noise was not present prior to 400 miles. However, I do acknowledge that it is colder now than when I got it in October.
  10. Dealer describes "Piston Slap" as a "Normal" characteristic of the 5.0 V8

I forgot to mention that I do have a bottle of ceratec in the engine and that did not change the noise or when it occurs. I'm planning to change the oil this weekend and get an oil analysis on that oil. I wouldn't want them to tear it apart if not needed. But I would like them to at least...
  11. Dealer describes "Piston Slap" as a "Normal" characteristic of the 5.0 V8

So I had my GT into the dealer yesterday for engine noise. I provided the bulleted information below to the dealer describing what I hear, when it occurs, the conditions for occurrence etc. The technician stated, "That the noise is normal and all GTs have them." When I asked what causes the...

Picked her up after paint correction / ceramic coating and undercoating. If you're in the Pittsburgh area, check out Next Level Detailing.
  13. What did you do to your S550 Mustang today?!

Nothing....was planning to pick up the GT after getting a full paint correction, ceramic coating, and undercoating. The weather decided not to cooperate. Also, if anyone in the Pittsburgh area is looking for a professional detailer, look up Next Level Detailing. You will not be disappointed...
  14. What did you do to your S550 Mustang today?!

Thanks! DM sent. I forgot to add to the earlier post that as a first time installation of a vinyl stripe, it went rather well. Most of the time was actually spent preparing and lining up the graphic. I would absolutely recommend Big Worm Graphix to anyone who wants to add graphics.
  15. What did you do to your S550 Mustang today?!

Actually happened on Saturday, installed Satin Aluminum rocker stripes from @BigWormGraphix. And this week, getting a full detail and ceramic coating just in time for winter.
  16. Rear Seat Delete... holy high priced mat batman....

My senior dog is the only reason I have for considering a RSD. I'm not worried about reducing weight to "go faster." If I need to reduce weight at some point, I'll just have to go on a diet.
  17. Ford the love of god

Yeah, Ford paint in general isn't the best quality. I am getting a full ceramic treatment done for the GT as well as my 2017 RS in a couple of weeks. I tend to keep cars for the long haul so I think doing the paint coatings are a good way to try to keep the car looking good for as long as possible.
  18. Ford the love of god

Understood. Something to keep an eye on for sure. I also read that there are paint issues with mirrors as well. I'll take a look at the paint threads. Thanks!
  19. Ford the love of god

Where is this on the hood? It looks like it is on the leading edge of the hood. I just got a MY22 GT so that will be something to watch for. Thanks in advance!
