  1. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

Here's the photo. The red is the sensor, and the blue is the plug I removed
  2. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

I just unplugged it, I think I shared a picture further up the thread but I'm not 100% sure, it's been a while. No CEL's, doesn't show up on the dash in diagnostic mode as a code either.
  3. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

I did this to quiet lifter tick I was having at idle, the lifter tick went away once it started getting proper oil pressure. The BBQ tick is still present, mostly on the driver's side and low, like it's coming from the bottom of the block or the oil pan. It's not super loud but it's definitely...
  4. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

Nearly 10,000 miles on my '21 GT, roughly 5,000mi without the oil pressure bypass solenoid installed. Still no issues, the lifter tick is completely gone, and the weird taser noise I had from the passenger side head near where the lifter tick was coming from has gone away also. BBQ tick is...
  5. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

so now I’m getting this weird “taser” like noise, coming from the same spot as the suspected lifter tick came from before I unplugged the oil bypass solenoid. I’m at a loss. I can’t imagine more oil pressure would cause it. I’ll probably just deal with it for now, I added some ceratec and I’ll...
  6. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

No worries! Yup I’m running 5W-30 motorcraft from the dealer. I’m thinking about switching to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30 though
  7. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

Okay so after a few more days of driving around, I have good news and less preferable but not bad news. good news: still no obnoxious tick! And still no check engine light either. less preferable but not necessarily bad news: looks like the BBQ tick is back. Doesn’t bother me all that much...
  8. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

That's so interesting. Wonder why two cars that should be identical aren't? Mine is also a 21 GT, 5W-30, only mods I've done are Roush cold air intake and PP dash trim/gauges. Well and now the oil bypass solenoid "delete". Are you a factory PP? I'm curious if the PP's have different specs for...
  9. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

From what I can tell, the purpose of the oil bypass solenoid is simply to keep oil pressure low at idle for “fuel economy”. It’s not throwing any CEL’s or having any performance issues, so I don’t see how it would hurt anything. I can’t imaginea little extra oil pressure would hurt it but we’ll...
  10. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

Ahhh well I have a Roush cold air intake that takes up less room than the stock air cleaner, so that could explain it
  11. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

Just went and used engineering mode to check for codes, nothing. Like I said I've only driven about 25 miles with the solenoid unplugged, but you'd think that if it were going to throw a code it would have thrown it by now. Definitely interesting...
  12. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

I don't have a code reader but I oughta get one. I'll see if engineering mode helps me at all
  13. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

Red circle is the solenoid, blue circle is the plug. It's wrapped in a sort of heat wrap. There's two connectors on down there, make sure you pull the one from the L-shaped connector not the straight connector. I started under the car but ended up pulling it from the top. If you go from the top...
  14. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

I do, I installed the PP gauges a few weeks ago. Oil pressure at hot idle before was between 12-14psi, oil pressure after unplugging the solenoid is between 20-22psi. This definitely makes me think my noise was something not getting enough oil, and I suspect that if I plugged the solenoid back...
  15. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

In a stroke of what may seem like idiocy, I decided to try something I had read earlier on this topic and I unplugged the "oil by-pass solenoid" present on the Gen 3 coyote motors. Lo and behold, no tick. In fact, my engine is running quieter than ever! I drove it 25 miles as a test, both slow...
  16. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

Dead on. About 7 techs came out and all tried to tell me it was normal, and quoted the SSM. When I showed how the SSM didn't line up with what I'm experiencing (SSM states noise comes from bell housing or oil pan, mine comes from the front of the passenger cylinder head) they just said "well...
  17. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

I had considered injectors, but they seem to be a much quieter tick than the one I'm experiencing. This tick doesn't start until after the engine is warmed up completely, and usually after driving it a short distance (Often once it is warmed up, I drive to check my mail which is 0.2mi/0.32km and...
  18. Install PP Gauges on Non-PP Model - Recap

Alright, I’m a glutton for punishment and I can’t just cap off the middle vent. How do I remove the non-PP air duct and install the PP air duct? (21 GT base non-PP 301A 6M) I know I have to remove the dash, but I can’t find any good info on this (looks like there were some pics posted detailing...
  19. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

Yeah I’ll have to take it to another dealership. I knew off the bat it wasn’t the HPFP but I didn’t wanna go arguing with them. Hopefully someone can get it fixed at whatever dealer I go to first, otherwise I’ll have to peruse every ford dealer in SEPA til someone fixes it
