This was the first thing I did, spent a few hours talking to different customer service and financial assistance people at Ford. They all told me "there is nothing they can do" when they found out the in-service date of the car was over 5 years.
5 years 60k. The in service date for this car was like May 2018 IIRC so I am a few months out of warranty.
I have always feared something like this because buying a "special" car from a normal brand will always have a mediocre dealership experience. I can't imagine buying a Ford GT or GT500...
The cracks seem to happen along the keyway, where the sprocket is the thinnest. A forged one from FP or MMR should do the trick and you won't get bamboozled like some of us.
I told this to the service advisor I was initially working with and then he disappeared for 2 weeks... I then called them and the service manager had not considered this and had already given the go ahead to tear it down. Just getting screwed from every direction.
Could keep the old engine, fix it and sell it to make a couple bucks back if I went that route? I hate the idea of the dealer doing the work, but having a 3 year warranty for parts and labor is a slight plus.
My car ADD is really kicking in too...
Yeah agreed.
My biggest regret is bringing it to the dealer in the first place thinking they would help me out in any way. After their diagnosis I'd have to take the car back disassembled with parts in the trunk and be on the hook for the $1,500-2000 for ~10hrs of labor. When I was adding it...
I'll be going to look at it next week, after the holiday. I've built a few engines/transmissions in my life, shouldn't be too hard to spot a cracked crank up close.
I agree it's a low chance. They would do a long block from Ford, dealer cost is probably ~$5k, they're $7500 on Jegs. The labor...
The picture is messing everything up lol...
The car had a Roush intake and X-pipe/resonator delete when I bought it, but no other evidence of mods. The intake manifold had the right amount of dirt/dust on it etc. I absolutely will chase the dealer down for pictures of the failure.
I should have specified that the pic is from the internet... Either way, there is a clear crack on the crank in that pic right above the keyway. I will chase down the service manager to get me some terrible pics of my engine
I bought the car from a solid southern NH Ford dealership.
I didn't drive the car to the dealer. I was in the middle of an oil change and found the tooth pictured above. I never drove it after that (flatbed to the dealer). I can't think of anything out of the ordinary apart from a rhythmic...
Hey all, I have a 2018 GT with 39k miles of which I have put on only 9k. Bought the car in January of 2022 and it's a summer only/road trip fun car for me, and also my first mustang.
I installed a magnetic drain plug 5k miles ago. When I was performing the second oil change under my ownership...
