They definitely did not change all of them because eventually the error code mentioned 1 bank had the problem. So it was only 1 or 2 of them.
I am paranoid that the other bank is going to be problematic later but still running well to date. I still haven’t noticed any irregular idles or stalls.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you get codes soon. I didn’t get codes immediately but eventually did. They had to do with engine misfires which is obviously very vague, but it did come eventually so I hope it eventually pops up for you too.
Just thought I’d share this link to a VCT tech talk since you are looking at some of those parameters. This might give you ideas of what else to do/look for.
I think this is a good hypothesis and seems very reasonable. I’m in agreement that replacing the cam phasers probably doesn’t include the solenoids. I wonder what size orifice these solenoids are because the smaller they are, the easier to clog.
I think several of us have fixed RPM drops/stall issues by cycling or even replacing VCT solenoids which is a known problem. Check back in this thread for more detail.
I totally agree that you running your rpms higher might be masking the underlying issue. Ever since my VCT solenoid was replaced, my Mustang has been running nicely ever since (many months now). It seems like those solenoids must be prone to clogging and maybe running at higher RPMs means that...
honestly I panicked when it happened. I definitely wasn’t going very fast so I came to a complete stop and fumbled around on how to get it back on. From what I remember I put it in park and foot on the brake and pushed the button, just like a normal start. I’ve never had a car stall on me in my...
I would push for replacement of the VCT(s). Since the cycling helped for 2 months, it is probably this. I’m sorry to hear about the car stall while in motion. That happened to me one time just as you described and was scary because I was on a public road with cars behind me. It made me really...
Wow I’m surprised they replaced the phasers so quickly. That seems like a lot more work to do as opposed to checking the VCT solenoids first. The dealer can cycle those valves (Try to unclog them) and that might even help your problem so then you can feel confident Those are the issue. Good luck.
yes I hope we are all fine with this...I am paranoid because there are two of these and I only got the one fixed. Hope the other one doesn’t go bad...
Of course, I’ll come back and update you! When I found your original post I was like this is what I am experiencing and was thrilled to see I wasn’t alone.
So the symptoms started off pretty minor, this was maybe last month or so now, where the car would shake maybe every other drive or so at...
Yes they actually swapped the solenoid out. I’m not sure how much of the cycling they did in reality, because the hotline person told them to basically swap it. I’m attaching a picture of the notes from the visit, because it looks like they might have done a little more too. I also asked if they...
Well just for an update, I was told yesterday that the dealer shop had reached out to the Ford hotline for help last Friday. They received a reply saying the solenoid was likely to blame and that if they swapped the solenoid out and the problem went away, great, and if not, then the bad solenoid...
Well I hope you can get lucky when/if you take it. If it is in warranty with an error code hopefully they can find the problem and just cause you a time pain
Have you had stalls at lights or anything? Does the problem go away for you then after the start all the time?
Have you had it looked at or diagnosed further?
