I think you would want 18 gauge especially over the long distances the electricity has to cover. 18 is still pretty small but a lot bigger then 22.

Having had a few sets of these I think I can answer what is going on The 5-mode are a little brighter then OEM Then single mode are MUCH dimmer then OEM

That is because there is no 12V that turns on with start in the wheel harness at all. You have to pass it through the connector, so you pin the red wire and plug in into an empty slot on the plug. Specifically the empty spot described here so it connects to the other wire you pin to the opposite...

I would like black as well. Fake carbon fiber is the worst. That alone killed it for me.
