Well I bit the bullet and received my wheel today - just 18 days after ordering. Total cost after import and handling charges - even with discount - £569.28. Expensive for a spare wheel, but perhaps not for peace of mind?
I had both the upper and lower grilles swapped out by Mike and the team at Modurstang. Can't remember exactly how long it took them, but at £50 all in it can't have been long!

You're right, how did you get at it? So far it's defeated me. In spite of watching all the YouTube videos and releasing the little cover flap that's supposed to give access, I still can't get a hand to it.

Thanks for the feedback guys - it's obviously a common problem. I had a can of WD-40 silicone lubricant in the garage...
...rather than the PTFE lube, but I tried this and it does seem to have solved the problem . The window alignment is still not perfect but is does now seal...
I think I have this same rear window problem on my 2016 'vert. It's done just over 15000 miles. It's the RH rear window (in this case, the driver's side) and the rather poor picture below shows the problem...
As well as rising, the closing motion involves rotation in a fore and aft plane...
Yes indeed - so far so good. Only real downside seems to be that you need to be careful where you park for the next few days after the treatment - the car will drip, mainly along the length of the sills. Best to park in someone else's drive maybe....?
It is relatively easy to clean up though...
