Hey guys, sorry for no update for so long. I fixed the freeze plug on my wife’s truck, then 2 days later it blew the freeze plug at the back of the block. I lacked a place to drop the trans to get to it, and the coolant was milky so I bought a new truck. I’ve been running full synthetic and...
I need to set a different goalpost for oil checks. I used to wash the car every 2-4 weeks, after getting married and having 3 kids in the past 4 years my car is lucky if it’s washed annually.
I think the performance package GT actually takes closer to 9 qts with the oil cooler. I hadn't checked my oil in a while before my issues started happening. My dipstick came up bone dry before the change, so my car either leaked or burned ~5 quarts of oil. I'm guessing the 7 and a half quart...
I have an update for yall. I was able to change my oil yesterday, wasn't fun crawling around on the cold wet ground but I got it done. I caught about half a cup worth of the first part of the drained oil in a jar. It is black and very thick. The rest I caught in a drain pan and also still have...
I stated in a previous post that I would cut it open and post pics. The hacksaw causing contamination is a good thought. I will probably knock a notch in it with a chisel and try to cut it with some tin snips.
No clue. My power was out for 18 hours yesterday and cut out at 8:30 this morning. There is still about 3 inches of snow standing outside. I have no hot water right now, and only a propane heater for the whole house. Could be Saturday until all of this clears up. Can’t drive the car anywhere...
That's good news for me. I'm starting to worry about my knock diagnosis though. I've been looking for examples of pulley knock, but can't find any. Sound was definitely from the front of the engine, didn't sound like it was from within the block and didn't sound as bad as most rod knock I've...
I honestly wish it didn't. It's embarrassing as hell but I needed advice. I take ownership of my actions no matter how stupid or shameful, the disbelief and jabs are well warranted.
This is the kind of advice I was hoping for, thank you. I likely won’t flush the engine now.
I will definitely get an oil analysis and share it. I will also cut open the filter and share pics of the horror within, hopefully not too much metal.
More of a black with a brown hue. I haven’t drained it yet, I plan to do it Friday. I think the presence of sludge is a safe assumption in my circumstance
This it what I wiped from the dipstick today before checking the oil level. The dipstick came back up bone dry.
I hadn't thought of slow cleaning it without a cleaner, but that's certainly an idea. I was going to do a flush with clean, cheap, oil cut 50% with diesel and a new filter idled up to temp, then another cheap oil change up to temp before draining, then royal purple and a good filter for actually...
No worries, I never plan to sell it. I bought it new intending it to eventually be a parts car for a restomod. I just need to keep a rod from going through the block for that purpose.
