My dealer ordered the head unit through Ford by my vin. They used an outside audio guy for the install. The result looks and operates like it was there from the factory. I do not have pricing info, as it was included in my deal.
Yep, mine also said satellite capable on the window sticker. No one at the dealership seemed to know what needed to be done to actually add the satellite radio. It took a couple of days, and a lot of phone calls, but they finally figured it out. Apparently they had never done it before. The...
Wrong. If you want to add satellite radio, you need to change the head unit out, and run an additional antenna. I have just been through this, and it wasn't nearly as easy as they make it sound. you can't just activate it in the BCM, or plug in a module.
Agreed. Total bs on Ford's part. They should remove SAT CAPL from the window sticker. But it is an absolute deal breaker for me. I will not listen to terrestrial radio, I don't know how anyone does.
Bingo. My salesman finally got back to me and said this is what they did to my car. They replaced the head unit (which wads ordered by vin#) but used the original faceplate, and reprogrammed audio system. No prices given. I don't think they want us to know. The bottom line is it can be done...
If the dealer was truly that concerned, they would "cost it out" for you. Plus, if they are any kind of "strong" dealership they are what is called SA (self authorizing) and can cover any thing they damn well please. You are being lied to.
I used to be a service manager.
I believe this is what was done. Someone I know at the dealership saw my car while this was being done, and said the radio was out of the vehicle, and apart on the bench.
The satellite radio install was included as part of the deal. They knew it was a dealbreaker for me, and said that they would get it done. I was given a we owe slip, and the satellite radio install was done three days after I took delivery. I never saw an invoice or a parts list. The outward...
I will call my salesman, and see if he can get me the part number they used. I do know for sure it was a Ford part number. The entire install was plug-and-play, no splicing or hacking of my wiring harnesses. The Ford shop did not do it, they brought in an outside audio guy for the install.
I don't know for sure, I just assumed that they use something like rearview mirror adhesive to mount the antenna on the inside of the windshield. I didn't think they could get away with mounting the antenna under the carpet on the package shelf , and still have a perform satisfactorily. if...
Sadly, I don't. The satellite radio install was part of a "we owe" in my sales agreement. I dropped the car off, and picked up a few hours later. I never saw a bill or an invoice. My salesman just said that it was a Ford part that they had to order and install. We were both very clear on that...
That was my alternative. I told my salesman that if the satellite radio install could not be done to my satisfaction, which is factory appearance and function, he would be getting the car back. They didn't punch the deal, or get rid of my trade until after the satellite radio install was done.
You don't have one. :) The alternate antennae location is on the inside of the windshield, behind the rear view mirror where that black Ford logo is. (I asked the installer what he would have done had I had a drop-top.)
The antenna is hidden under the carpet on the rear package shelf. Reception is fantastic, yet it cannot be seen. Satellite radio mode is accessed by using the mode button on the steering wheel.
Sirius radio install can indeed be done correctly. I had mine done post ldelivery. The mute button still mutes, and the antenna is concealed under the package shelf. Eveything appears and functions as factory. Radio presets and steering wheel controls function perfectly. All they had to do...
