  1. Difference between gen 2, gen 3

Some good points made above. A couple of other finer points: - It appears Ford made some improvement to the OPG. I don't know if it was gen2 or gen3, but somewhere between gen1 and gen3 the OPG failures seemed to stop even though revs keep going up. - Gen3 got a stronger block geometry and...
  2. ALL NEW Mustang E-Flex Fuel Filter kits! (by KPM Fuel Systems)

I actually tried this initially and figured out real quick it wouldn’t work. The gdi pump feed line has a check valve in it and at high-ish fuel flow the pressure drop ramps up. It ultimately adds too much restriction to the system.
  3. High idle intermittently

The way ford controls idle is very interesting. It calculates how much torque the engine needs to make, such as pumping losses (pistons pulling against intake manifold vacuum), friction losses, torque converter, accessories, etc, adds some margin called “reserve”, then opens the throttle the...
  4. Supercharging fact and fiction help me clear up my worries

Yea, even the stock gt500 tune iirc calls for stock gt torque levels up to something like 50% pedal and….that’s what you get. I personally like my supercharged engine to “act” more like a 10 or 12 liter engine so I have it hitting you with a lot of torque in the first half of pedal travel...
  5. S550 Whipple, E85, 900+ whp, roll-race-focused - Converter?

For roll racing you’d want the converter locked the whole time. What’s the motivation for changing from stock? The stock tcc seems to be able to hold that power level.
  6. Ford 5.0 Oil Drain Plug Design Change

The slot and hole appear to allow you to loosen it and drain the oil in a controlled fashion through a smaller hole before taking it all the way out and having a wall of hot oil gush out. I'm going to have to order one.
  7. Centrifugal Boost Question - Cats

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/yet-another-how-do-we-make-cats-live-thread.218472/ 1350 but choosing this wasn’t super scientific. Basically I erred on the low side.
  8. Centrifugal Boost Question - Cats

@stang17 i actually installed thermocouples in my cats some years ago and found the cat temp actually rise when you let off. However, I’m 90% sure the degradation we are seeing isn’t due to peak temp. It’s due to thermal stress which is different. All of the tech articles on thermal...
  9. Centrifugal Boost Question - Cats

Couple of things: With a centrif and the rising boost curve I would expect the “time at temp” would be lower. Also, with the rising boost curve there’s less chance of thermal shock. Secondly, the nature of a dynamic compressor (centrif) is that increased manifold pressure will reduce flow...
  10. Centrifugal Boost Question - Cats

I think dfso is actually what’s destroying cats. I’ve programmed mine to not enter dfso once the cats are over a certain temp. Mine have lasted several years at about 900 rwhp in both a Roush truck and Whipple car, but they are gt500 cats as well. Speed density also does a better job of...
  11. VMP Odin (boost issue?)

I hope the belt tightening fixes the issue for you. Well, that's between you and your tuner. I like to set mine up with borderline only about 2.5 or 3 deg below knock, then limit knock advance to 2 deg. On pump gas and your boost level, that means setting borderline to something like 16 and...
  12. Ford Performance Tune for 2018+ GT

Yes, for sure. You can buy tuning software like hptuners and read your tune from your car. Then find a copy of the FP tune online, like in the hptuners forum, compare the files, and copy over transmission changes. The problem is that you won't find any. The FP tune didn't make any changes to...
  13. VMP Odin (boost issue?)

Couple of observations from the drag log just posted: - Yes, the load appears to be very slow to build in first gear. Throttle is wide open but, for instance, load is only 1.1 at 3500 rpm. I don't know if it's belt slip or perhaps a lazy bypass valve. - With the manual trans, the knock...
  14. VMP Odin (boost issue?)

Ok, good we have a log now. The throttle is going WOT as soon as the pedal goes down at 3500 rpm, load at WOT is 1.5 to 1.7, timing is a little lazy starting at 11 and building to 17 deg, lambda is .76, cam timing is running where it should. The WOT load of 1.5 to 1.7 isn't boost, but it's...
  15. VMP Odin (boost issue?)

I'm just saying that you're trying to diagnose a problem in a modern mustang without the single most useful and valuable tool. And it's not really your fault, per se, it's the way "we" let the tuners lock us out of the tune and now log data as well. You're paying your tuner who hasn't been...
  16. VMP Odin (boost issue?)

This is very basic but you can’t expect the forum to be able to really diagnose it without a log. It absolutely blows my mind that these paid tuners hold your log, let alone your tune, hostage.
  17. VMP Odin (boost issue?)

It’s either….bypass valve, extreme belt slip, or the throttle isn’t opening. But without a log it’s just guessing.
  18. CHT lowering tips?

The fan doesn’t come on fully until about 230 unless you have it tuned otherwise. Get programming software and set up the fan temps you want. My experience is this has more influence than any hardware mod to the cooling system.
  19. Fuel pump failed, open active recall, dealer says Ford won't issue parts.

By the recall description it really sounds like the issue they’re recalling is about the venturi nozzle not the electric pump itself. But yes, you can get a pair of stock pumps from ford performance for $200 and swap one in an hour easily.
  20. VMP Odin (boost issue?)

Before yall go dogging on the cats (sorry, I had to) see the attached dyno graph. Gray is no cats, dark blue is with cats. Shocked all of us. These pulls were one car, same dyno within an hour of each other. We actually installed cats without even taking the car off the dyno then immediately...
