  1. Too good of a deal - something fishy???

See if it still has a warranty. That should tell you something.
  2. 2nd car to preserve the 'stang?

You sold a 992 to buy a Mustang??? I feel rather foolish offering you advice about the potential costs of a 991 or E89. You might have said something sooner. Even if I could afford a 992, it would be very impractical around Wisconsin, because of the wheel size. The roads are such that anything...
  3. 2nd car to preserve the 'stang?

The G29 Z4 has a large package shelf behind the seats. The trunk is quite large and putting the top down does not interfere with trunk space. In general, it is much roomier than the E89 Z4. The M240i Xdrive is a really nice driving car, but back seat leg room is very limited. I don't think the...
  4. 2nd car to preserve the 'stang?

I was referring to the Mini coupe, the cabrio has way too much wind penetration to suit me. I had an E89 335i and have driven a friends E89 Z4 on a number of occasions. There is no comparison to the G29. The B58 engine is much stronger and doesn't have the heat build up issues the N54 has. You...
  5. Inflation

Youngsters! I remember when it was $1.05. My first job was pumping gas for $1.15. If you divide the cost of everything by 15, you end up pretty close to what things cost in 1959. Rent for my first apartment in 1963 was $200. A nice new car was $3200. So, we are just basically running in...
  6. 2nd car to preserve the 'stang?

I had a BMW Mini base model as a daily beater for commuting to work. They are a lot of fun to drive. The turbo and supercharged models are even more fun.
  7. ‘13 E92 M3 vs ‘15 Mustang GT

I checked out a used 2008 M3 a few years ago. I decided against it because I didn't think it had been well maintained. I ended up buying a 2010 335i XDrive with a 6 speed. With a few mods, it was a very quick car that was fun to drive. I sold that car in 2019. I'm pretty sure my next car will be...
  8. BMW Ranks Ninth In 2024 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study

I've had two Lexus models and I thought their service department was very professional. I only had one warranty repair and I had no hassles. But, after that, the repairs I had were expensive and no better reliability than any other car I've owned in the last 20 years. However, if you live in an...
  9. 2nd car to preserve the 'stang?

I recently sold my 997.2 C2 cabriolet. The 9A1 engine has the potential for bore scoring which is very expensive to fix. It has an open deck design, so the bores are not rigid and there are no cylinder liners. A replacement used engine is about $20k, but the risk is still there. A real fix can...
  10. EV's.......... πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Kind of makes you wonder what grade of stainless they are using? Also, who in their right mind would buy one?
  11. Extended warranty Advice needed

I'm 80, retired, no place to go and I have other cars. I will sell it to my son or son-in-law in 3 years and they will drive the snot out of it. So, don't feel too bad.
  12. Extended warranty Advice needed

An extended warranty would be nice if they tailored coverage to fit mileage. If you don't drive a lot of miles, they aren't worth it. I need one for 3 years and 8k miles. I don't need one for 36k miles. My car will never see 36k miles.
  13. Reliving My Younger Years - Slot Cars …

You get a lot of models in the UK we don't get here in the US. I would love to get 3 of the sidecars. But the prices they want on EBay, plus shipping from UK or Spain, gets pretty high. Plus, I usually do a lot of upgrades, so it adds up.
  14. Reliving My Younger Years - Slot Cars …

It's funny you mentioned switches. I just bought 8 of them from a fellow HRW member. The quality is incredible. Now I have to figure out how I can use them. I think they can be tied into my Trackmate timer, so they work under program control. What is that track surface made of? It doesn't look...
  15. EV's.......... πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Even if resource usage, lack of charging stations and battery issues were resolved, I wouldn't buy an EV. Too many loose ends for my taste. I try to think of a situation where I would be OK with owning one and I just can't. I sold a perfectly good 2010 Porsche 911 Carrera S cabriolet because...
  16. Reliving My Younger Years - Slot Cars …

Here's most of my car collection, about 60 cars. Most run really well.
  17. BMW Ranks Ninth In 2024 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study

Those surveys are too generic for most people in this forum, or any performance related forum. They mostly reflect the most popular models sold by each car maker. Which in the case of Honda or Toyota, are going to be lower content small sedans, while Ford will be big, expensive pickup trucks. My...
  18. EV's.......... πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I do not see EVs as the next great thing. I simply entertain the possibility and envision what the result would be. Realistically, it will never affect me. But, 60 years of software development has made me consider all aspects of an issue, because the one you ignore, that will "never" happen, is...
  19. EV's.......... πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

It's not meant as praise. More of a cautionary tale. Remember the 70s.
  20. Any suggestions for a new to me Mustang

There is nothing that stands out as a known problem you need to worry about. Drive it for awhile and see how it feels to you. Enjoy.
