I was initially drawn to the S550 because of the early rumors that it would be smaller and lighter. I was really disappointed when I learned that's not the case. I've since convinced myself that it doesn't matter because the ride will be much better than my FRS.
I bought my FR-S the day it was released (actually, the dealer sold it to me a day early). I have had to deal with a few of the early bugs(bad tail-light seals, ECU control module, engine chirping), but I think manufactures now do a pretty good job of quality control before releasing...
I currently own an FRS and hear what you're saying, but an FRS was never meant to be a drag racer. It doesn't take anything away from how brilliant it is. Just like I don't think the new Mustang is purpose built for drag racing.
I was thinking just the opposite. I think that white highlights the 50th package the best, followed by ruby. This is coming from somebody who usually hates chrome.
Ford said the GT PP has the same brakes as the GT500. I've seen that some GT500 drivers were able to get 18" wheels around their brakes (although there was only 2 or 3 sets that actually fit).
I for one am not at all disappointed in the numbers. I'm pretty sure they put most of their effort into improving the chassis to prepare this car for global sales. When I see overseas reviewers (such as Top Gear) look at the Mustang, they never complain about lack of power. They do however...
I'm also from Michigan. I want the PP but I'm worried it will be hard to get winter wheels/tires over those massive 15" rotors with 6pot calipers. I'm waiting to see if anybody can fit an 18" wheel over those brakes. It will be tough.
I don't see why everybody is complaining. My current car has 200hp and is loads of fun. The new Mustang gets around a track as fast as a Boss302, and you can buy one NEW for less than a USED Boss. This car is a bargain!
