Yeah I remember that stock air filter box was a pain. It's most likely something with the MAF. If you don't find anything wrong when you check it again I would take it to the dealer.

I just had this issue. It's your fuel pumps. 13k miles on mine when they went out. The car would sputter when I tried to give it gas, and that eventually turned into it not starting up at all. Warranty will cover the issue.
