I’m not sure about going about a fix but I’d like to share my experience with them. Have had them installed for about a year and no issues. However after reading your post I tested mine with the headlights off. Mine still sequence but freak out if the headlight are off.

I always park far away at work and at stores, but at my apartment complex; its impossible to not be beside someone. On the other hand, at least I know the people who always park beside me everyday if anything happens.

That seems like it should work, but I worry about the memory being too small. Also, would it be possible to tap into the map light power and still have safe constant power, even when the car is off? That would be easier than running the wire all the way to the fuse box.
