This is exactly what I am concerned about. Even if I never track it, sounds like 15-20 minutes of hard driving can throw you into limp mode.

I thought about this. vs even buying a donor car, stripping it of parts and then selling what is left to a junk yard (this way I can take a transmission out in my own garage rather than at a junkyard and then have to transport it)
