Detroit members,

I will be traveling to your area in February for a family visit. I am going to have time on my hands to tool around during the day. Are there any Ford / Mustang destinations I should hit?

Does Ford or Roush offer factory tours?

Any insight will be appreciated since I am sure its going to be COLD!

Thanks,

Mike

The standard answer is The Henry Ford Museum. Car theme, not necessarily Mustang though. Good family spot. Ford Rouge Plant, F150, has factory tours, not sure on schedule but appears to also be arranged right through The Henry Ford. Here's a link.

Thanks everyone! This is perfect for the family too. Then, I may try to sneak off to Roush and maybe even the Flat Rock Assembly Plant to drool from the fence and pay homage to the GT 350.

As previously stated, the Henry Ford is a must.

The Roush Collection maybe open while you are in the Detroit area. This collection is well worth the visit especially if you are a Roush fan.

There is also the Piquette Plant where some of the first Ford automobiles were built including the first Model T's. Expect to stay a few hours, the volunteers do an outstanding job on reviewing early Ford Motor Company history. Call ahead to make sure they are open when you are in Detroit. Note that the building has limited heat in the winter months.

About 30 miles west of Detroit in Ypsilanti is Ypsilanti Heritage Museum which features the last operating Hudson dealership. This is an old dealership that has a nice collection of quirky cars. Note that the Yankee Air Force Museum is located nearby.

I write a Blog that features places to visit in the Detroit area. It is mostly reviews of bars/restaurants, but there are a few family sites that are reviewed.

Thanks!

What's at that address?
Lol. Some performance shop. :D Livernois has a nice set up. They will give you a tour, just call them ahead of time.

and yes the Henry Ford museum stuff for sure.

Get a hold of Kyle on here from Roush. More than likely will give you a tour if scheduled ahead of time. They have a nice set up as well. Can see the mustangs being built to their specs by job station etc. Pretty cool.
