I just got an email from a friend about this today, I'll repeat the basics of what I told him.

1st and foremost consider the source. I don't consider Consumer Reports an authority on, well, anything, as it always seems my experiences are in conflict w/ what they report. I also always wonder how they can determine a car as reliable in its first year of production, as they frequently do.

Most complaints of trans issues are due to software issues. There seem to be very few hardware issues associated w/ many of these new trans. I researched cars thoroughly before giving my blessing to my gf when she wanted to purchase a new TLX. No owners on any of the forums I searched had any issues w/ the ZF 9 speed, and glad to say she hasn't had any issues to date...regardless of the fearmongering.

Just hoping the new Ford 10 speed proves as durable in high hp/torque apps as the 6R80 has been.
