I assumed it was a reference to "octo-" -> "eight", as in V8.

I think a car naming is a personal thing my luck has been that when I tell anyone my cars name it decides to go ape shit and break, must be jealousy so I don't tell people my current cars name. I have a system though. the name must start with the same letter of the cars name, some examples below

2000 Nissan Frontier -Felicity
1993 Nissan Skyline -Stephanie
1993 Toyota Supra - Sara
2001 Lexus IS200 -Isabell
2015 Ford Mustang -M_______. I haven't met her yet, she will have a name when I have gotten to know her personality.

The wife's 1994 Supra? I won't even let her tell me the Gender! I don't want it to die!

Edit: I've owned many more cars that I didn't care enough about to bother naming.
