Bigger is better. Right ? Wrong. I did some hits today using a 120mm MAF open element housing vs the stock '17 air box. Exact same diablosport custom tune other then the MAF scaling. Exact same ambient temp 57f, humidity 47%, DA 57ft.

3000-7500 rpm 3rd gear pull win for the stock '17 air box
0-60 mph win for the stock '17 air box

Without cams / LTH / stupid high rpm (7500+) / or FI, and significant cool downs between runs, any aftermarket open air CAI in the engine bay is just a waste of money. I lived and learned by 4 years of fucking around with them.

Stock airbox & a drop in filter from now on. And when I go to a emissions legal centri.. stock airbox as well.

Threw in the towel on the PMAS huh? I’m hoping to see positive data on the new PMAS inner fender mount setup soon. Maybe that will lower IATs a whole lot.

Best way to go. 18+ oem with high flow filter. Flows well, keeps iats down and smoother maf curve.

That PMAS is like a wild boar and can be hard to tame.
The PMAS is perfect for 60-130 roll race guys after driving for a couple miles to cool it down. I was seeing 150f+ IAT in like 65f ambient temps while staging for a 1/8 mile race. Didn't even cool down. Well maybe a degree or two.

I know you’ve done far more testing with the PMAS that I have. I was wondering if at any point you tried strapping a frozen gel pack around the MAF housing to see if that worked to lower IATs?

Nope. But I did thermo wrap. The problem I later found out with thermo wrap is, when it gets hot from sitting/idling etc. It stays hot.

I'm getting a generic remote IAT monitor (mounted to the center of intake manifold, bottom side) and gonna plug it into the EAS port on my DiabloSport Trinity EX Platinum. I'll set up a PID for it and watch the temp difference between the MAF & when the air enters the intake .

I'll tell you right now a stock 15-17 airbox will destroy a 120mm MAF to the 1/8th. Well can't really say stock per say cause I got rid of the charcoal filter and smoothed out the area a tad.

As far as wrapping your intake, the temperature at the air source is way more important than the tube temp. The air moves too fast through the tubing to allow much thermal transfer from the tube to the air.

AND a cooler air source could actually cool or equilize the tube temp.
