Can someone in the know explain why the JLT separator cannot be sold in California but the Ford Performance part can.
One website (Redline) was the only company that seemed to be ok with shipping to California....until my shipment got cancelled and money refunded.
I know California is stupid about these kind of things but this is plain nuts. CARB, California Air Resources Board, who I’ve dealt with in my business can be impossible to reason with.
The JLT seems to be a much better, user friendly design. No tiny screw removals to check the can.

The Ford Performance Oil / Air Separator is the only '50 state legal' part - even in the Kingdom of California. It is posted on the FP site, but the page is not responding now (much of FP is offline during the pandemic). Below is the link, if it is working at some point, it may explain why / how the FP is different to get the Kingdom's approval.

The CARB process is ridiculous. It would be one thing if the emissions actually mattered but all it has to do with is grabbing money from the companies. I was born and raised in southern CA and loved it there but CARB is just as rotten as organizations can be.

It’s times like these that my wife reminds me we have relatives in Ohio, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming etc.
Time to relocate!

Or, just have it shipped to them and then have them ship it to you in packaging that doesn't have any logos on it.

Well the good news is the FP site is now up.

The bad news is the FP oil separator is not listed as CA compliant (my bad). I cross checked on CJ Pony parts and it is noted as non compliant for CARB and they will not sell / ship to CA.

So I guess if you live in CA, you can install the oil separator, save the OEM hoses and remove the oil separator when getting emissions checked. The pop on and off easily enough.

I had the same issue when ordering for the BMW I owned prior to my GT350. Got around it by ordering from a Canadian company. They DGAF about silly California or US emissions rules and will happily ship whatever you want across the border.

Please explain. I’m open to changing my mind that’s for sure.
Aluminum vs composite, user friendly vs not so much. What am I missing?

Just trust me. The frpp bolts down to the valve cover On pass side, where as jlt hangs on hoses

people say the drivers side is useless, after a lot of track days with heavy use, i havent seen any oil in drivers side but passenger always does.

Must have redesigned the JLT because it does come with an aluminum bracket.
I must admit though, the FP looks like it’s not an add on part.
