To me 480 projected horsepower is just the number Ford engineers throw out there to let us know it will have more horsepower than the GT. If the Mach 1 engine does indeed have the GT350 intake manifold , 480 horsepower sounds low for an intake manifold designed for an 8250 RPM engine. The 480 horsepower at 7000 RPM is more like the RPM rating for a pushrod engine. I will wait to see what the horsepower level on the Mach 1 engine is at 7800 RPM. I suspect the horsepower level will be closer to 500 horsepower.
This isn't a likely scenario as even the GT350's peak power happens at 7300-7500 RPM with a rev happy flat plane crank engine. While it is possible for the Gen 3 5.0 to reach 500hp NA I have a hard time believing that Ford as an OEM would be willing to eat into their safety factor to achieve it. Higher revs won't equate to more HP if the torque curve falls too steep at those higher RPM's (HP = TQ x RPM/5252).

Either way, this is a very interesting car to me, I'd love a GT350 but am honestly concerned with longevity of the Voodoo, so for me the Mach 1 is the next best thing.

I'm amused with all the "youtube influencers" out there saying they hate the Mach 1 without driving it, nor having any real automotive/racing experience nor an engineering background.

Thanks for the great pictures!....must resist urge to spend more money.......errrrrrrgh!

The wheels look great, but I think I like my PP2 wheels better . A little bit simpler than the Mach 1's. Maybe in person I would change my mind.

Most of the people hating on it already have an 18+. This is still quite an upgrade for a 15-17 owner. May be just enough for me to let go of my 17.

Remember the original reason for the shaker was so that with a lopey cam it could idle without rattling and receiving fresh air directly into the carburetor which sat on top of the engine.

The early serious drag cars from Ford had holes cut in the grill for more direct cold air. Just like the Thunderbolts and Galaxies.

Do you think that is the purpose of the black circles in the grill? If removable it makes a lot more sense than a 30 pound shaker that leaked rain water all over the engine. (at least on my '70 CJ Torino it did).

And, if removable, I wonder what it would look like?

Does anybody know what's the deal with the exhaust tips? Are they retrofittable to the AE exhaust on Bullitts and other GTs? Or are they welded into the mufflers? I assume the Mach1 has AE standard, right??? Thx.

I haven’t read through this whole thread but I’m guessing it would take more development than Ford was willing to do soon to the S650 release to up the NA Coyote to 500 on 93 while living very, very reliably on crappy 87 in a global market. The Bullitt version was ready to go. I am a little disappointed they didn’t follow the 03-04 Mach I example of an upgraded engine and shaker hood, but the Tremec makes it worthwhile.
Maybe....not sure why they just don't have two hp trims then....~480 for base and ~500+ for HP. This way they can still offer the Mach 1 everywhere. Plenty of EU cars that have trims and options (and models) not available in the US. Why not make something special for the home folks.

I agree 100% my only complaint is that it doesn't look like a Mach1.
Not enough like what a Mach 1 should look like? A few extra visual touches would have been nice. Maybe they will come up with a few between now and when it is released.

The car looks ugly. And it’s capabilities aren’t anything to write home about.

That’s just the way it is. No need to get bent over it.

It’s a Mustang GT +. A better Bullitt (a retro nameplate that actually looks great) that got beat with an ugly stick.
When I want your opinion I will give it to you!

Agreed.....although letting go of a Grabber Blue car will be tough I think.

My feeling is this car was in the pipeline at the same time as the Mach E and was going to be called the Boss 302. But when everyone found out that Ford's first EV was going to be called the Mach1 and raised hell about it so much they changed the name to Mach E Ford decided to give us an in your face by calling this Mustang Mach1 and not Boss 302.
