I actually like the sills on the 2016 more.Always wondered why Ford got rid of those sills, they were much nicer and said something about the GT 350.

I agree I had a 16 and then 17 I never did like the change in 17. The 16's also had the same plaque on the strut tower brace as the door sills which was cool. The 17's as yas know both door sills and strut tower brace just say Ford Performance. I've seen where some have bought and changed the door sills on newer models back like the 16's. You wouldn't be able to change the strut tower brace one without replacing the brace.I actually like the sills on the 2016 more.
I actually don’t take it as bragging. This was Ford’s first use of a flat plane crank and composites in a mass produced car. So I find it appropriate for them to highlight it.No matter the reason ...
I just smile and laugh whenever I see the big bold letters, emboldened on the plastic LOL
"F L A T P L A N E C R A N K"
or another favorite distinctly American style marketing:
"C A R B O N F I B E R C O M P O S I T E"
LOL
usually when manufacturers used FPC engines or CF they simply just used it; leave it to the Americans to make it front and center , as if its the latest thing lol
The cool thing is you can modify or cover these areas if you wish.. I've seen some of the under hood plaques that really personalize the vehicle for you. After watching the various you tube reviews of the 350 over the past 5 years it's interesting how a lot of reviewer pick on the interior and the comments about "cheap plastic" That tells me they are reaching to find something negative to say.I actually don’t take it as bragging. If it was their ninth time or something that they do all the time in every car that it’s now commonplace, then I would see it as bragging.
Did they? I know the 2016 cars had the Flat Plane Crank and displacement sill and I thought they were really tacky. Then 2017 - 2018 had the Ford Performance one. Did they get rid of them in 19 and 20?Always wondered why Ford got rid of those sills, they were much nicer and said something about the GT 350.
17-20 are the same. FP.Did they? I know the 2016 cars had the Flat Plane Crank and displacement sill and I thought they were really tacky. Then 2017 - 2018 had the Ford Performance one. Did they get rid of them in 19 and 20?
it they were smart they would have incorporated a balance shaft. What is it with car engine designers not taking cues from the motorocycle guys who have used FPC for decades and incorporated one if not 2 balance shafts? It's not like there isn't oodles of room unlike in a MC engine.5.5 liter flat plane crank......gonna have some severe secondary and third order vibrations to dampen out.
That depends on what the bore and stroke is. It's not about overall displacement, it's about how that displacement is achieved.5.5 liter flat plane crank......gonna have some severe secondary and third order vibrations to dampen out.
Example my 2007 Canyon had a I5 (five cylinder engine) in it. And I thought how in hell can you have 5 cylinders and the engine be smooth. I had that truck 9 years and it idled perfectly smooth and had quite a bit of horse power. They were basically a straight 6 and they took a cylinder off. And what made it so smooth? Balance shafts so they do work. Theres a lot of them out there right now with high mileage that run just fine and smooth.it they were smart they would have incorporated a balance shaft. Sure wouldn't want to be the guy to say "We need to change sparkplugs" (On the GT40)Speaking of unique exhaust sound, anyone heard of 180 degree headers.
The very reason I had to have a fpc GT350 when they came out. (I needed to get the entire Real Thing)
I had been utilizing just a portion on the 180 degree setup for some 30 years on my stock cars... (180 degree headers)
These headers we used on our Big Block Cross Plane 454 Chevrolet engines for years, they did add a small amount of horsepower.
Many people described the sound our headers made on the race track as a: "A nest of Mad Hornets"
A description article for the 180 degree header concept: https://www.hotrod.com/articles/180-degree-headers-help-v8s-low-midrange-torque/
My all-time favorite:
1966 LeMans-Winning Ford GT40
These 180 degree headers for the Big Block Ford 427 were a work of art !
