Typical of your responses. No, I'm not going to go fact check some layman's bullshit.
Steve: I should know better but I gotta raise the bullsh*t flag on that one. Medical services are being overloaded because of sick people, not hysterical people.

Remember, this isn't the seasonal Flu for which we know a great deal. It's in the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) with the keywords being Severe and Acute. Our bodies have no immunity to this bug and if it gets a good grip on you, things can get critical quickly.

Sure there's some hysteria in the heavily-infected areas and any scare to the population always generates foolish buying sprees.

But it IS the virus, not hysteria that has us in this situation.
just becuase we disagree , doesnt mean its personal.
tomster, again, fact check who? I suppose if i get bored enough ill post all the data the past few years. The media ran out of things to talk about, this one stuck.

bravo, not saying people arnt sick, im saying the #s are not representative do to hypchondrism, becuase they fell for it. " oh now, we have a cough, let me get to the doctor, its the kiiler virus that doesnt kill.."

someon could always, in medical terms, explain to me/us the difference in the virus strains and how the #s are different from other common virus, the ones that do have a high mortality rate. Problem is, I already have. I dont have to force feed information on a virus to people on the car forum. id rather talk about D-bags new TT c8 here

This will be another one of those guant I-told-you-so
break it down for me, by age, American deaths.. ill wait

Now to pivot the Mustang into "essential food delivery" purposes, for those Massachusetts residents under extra-legal house arrest.
lol
We can go out, drive our cars, go for walks, as long as we're 6 feet apart. lol Not a lock down,........yet.
I'm still working as we do work for the gubberment.

So is the economy and life the way you live it more important than other people's lives? Covid-19 is more infectious and unlike the flu can be transmitted when the person doesn't know that they are infected. I've seen you argue, you are not a stupid person. Do the math. Let a virus like this loose onto the population with no checks and balances and it is a matter of time before everyone is infected. Some will live, some will die. However it is not accurate to compare this with the flu or other viral infections.

Unchecked, sooner or later it will kill either you or someone you love. Even healthy people fall to the progression of a deep respiratory infection that makes it almost impossible to respirate naturally.

Take a moment and think about your position. Let's see.... the chinese government went to the extremes of having military and police arrest and subdue people to curtail this spread. One large church gathering started South Korea into lockdown. Italy.... well because they had the attitude you did, they suffered heavy losses.... then they realized their mistake. To that point, what has saved everyone from this thing here in the US so far is that they have closed society and taken this seriously. The reason we are not suffering staggering losses is because of the sacrifices of the people wo abide by the restrictions.

You are reckless and irresponsible to think that a response is a wast of time and effort. Every notable expert agrees that our course of action is correct. If you really feel that the economy is more important than the overall health and wellbeing of people, then there isnt much more to discuss.

Oh yea, and because it is a new virus to the human body (no learned resistance) you have no real immunity to it whatsoever.

On a side note, even though its genome has been mapped, there is no match to where this virus came from. Still to this day, they have not matched it to any animal on the planet with any reliable certainty.

My point is that we are not dealing with a "run of the mill" viral infection here.

Tomster, the one thing I disagree with is that we have closed society. So far, we are more lucky than good. We are moving in the right direction, but slow to need. Hopefully, we'll continue to pick up the pace.

Yes, maybe a poor choice of words. I would say china was closed in certain areas by police and military force.

We, in the US, voluntarily abide by the restrictions...... at least most of us do.

Agree with the China part, and appreciate the situation in Florida. However, across the country, many places are only now starting to institute restrictions and they are slow to do so. As slow as Italy was, in real time they were pretty fast, just too incremental. They started with closures after 1800, and saw that wasn't working and went to full scale shut downs. Spain recently went to a "you can't leave the house at all"--no walks in the park, etc. Belgium is issuing fines if you're on the street without justification, other than walks within the neighborhood, etc. Germany, Netherlands, Denmark... The list goes on, and these strict versions have been in place for nearly two weeks, while back home we still discuss it. Stimulus laws were passed some time ago. Testing is commonplace, provisions were made to care for kids of health workers and others who cannot shut down (not a health worker, but fall into the can't shut down category), pharmacists and others are have created volunteer networks to deliver food and other supplies. This is from the small villages to the major cities. Far from perfect, but well done overall.

Yep, I get it. This "wait and see" to react is dangerous.

On top of that, there are the idiots who second guess the expert advice given from our top scientific minds because it is inconvenient for them or their bank account.

Florida (Flori-duh) has made so many mistakes. They have taken the wait and see approach. Miami and Lauderde were smart to close down the beaches and effectively kill spring break, but the governor has elected for each local government to decide for themselves. Of course this has resulted in keeping as much open as possible, thereby creating hazard of infection for the people stupid enough to be out and about.

Alexander Hamilton had it right.... we are the masses of asses.

Maybe you are right. Based on what you've said I don't think I should try to convince you of anything. Seems like we will just argue and no one's mind will be changed.
Yeah, i have never changed anyone's mind. I'm independent of the right/left fight. It's a losing fight. But, I do like friendly discussions. Same offer to you as anyone else. You travel to DC and I'll buy the beer after work. My work address is 1600 Pennsylvania Ave and I know a great place down the street i frequent. I may just have a few fun facts in my head about how it all works. I've only been in Gov work since 91. Here's one of the fun public facing sites you might find interesting. www.vault.fbi.gov
Enjoy! Cheers!

That site cannot be reached. I don't think there's a right in this country. Maybe 60 years ago or more. Now it's just left and left-er.

Thanks for the offer of a beer though. The trip would cost a little too much to be worth it just for a free beer. I think I'll save my money for car parts and track days.

I would be one to take you up on this offer. I get over that way once or twice a year. Thanks for your service through government.

Socialism tastes so sweet on the tongue. The problems only show up later.
