Identify what is 52; 52A and 52B block. Then I may have at least part of your question answered. My engine build date was 1/22/19 and car assembled 2/19.Do these forum members have any pictures of engine blocks that show they are actually 52B and NOT 52A blocks?
I have heard conflicting information that just makes figuring this all out even more difficult. ughh.
Thanks everyone for input on this.
Should I start a separate thread on this as we will likely need some cleanup eventually?
52B: GT350 "52B" blocks started ~Feb 2019 vehicle build date? or Engine build date?
Any sources that say "52B" and NOT "52A"?
52A: GT350 "52A" blocks started ? and end?
Any sources on specific "52A" block info?
Visual identification:
Any links or examples on identifying assembled blocks?
52
52A
52B
That's the 52A. The 52B simply has the higher flow 2018 style oil jets and is clearanced for rod bolts. Basicly, the 52A is the Voodoo block and 52B is the Predator block. Here is my GR3Z block built up(with a cross plane crank )

There is an engineering number cast into the block by the starter. I don't know if you can see from underneath but it will read:Identify what is 52; 52A and 52B block. Then I may have at least part of your question answered. My engine build date was 1/22/19 and car assembled 2/19.
That’s what I thought too .That's the 52A. The 52B simply has the higher flow 2018 style oil jets and is clearanced for rod bolts. Basicly, the 52A is the Voodoo block and 52B is the Predator block.
Now there is some confusion about the OEM block equivalent .
I still think the GR3Z -6010-F = 52A and the KR3Z-6010-A = 52 B
My engine builder says other wise and thinks they are both 52B (Gen 3) but different final machining since the GR3Z-6010-F still has the squirters in the mains .
If so then it looks like the GR3Z-6010-F is what goes in the latest voodoo and the KR3Z-6010- the predator .
I think all generations of the Voodoo blocks have an OEM number that starts with GR3Z.There is an engineering number cast into the block by the starter. I don't know if you can see from underneath but it will read:
XXGR3E
6015 XX
The "XX" are just letters that I'm not sure of the actual combination.
My understanding:
first 5.2L was the 52
second "sports" 5.0 or 5.2 block became available but evidently was short lived
52A "earlier"became available
52A "rev unknown" There might be a second casting of the 52A (speculative).
52B was heavier cast wall version of 52A and was used in GT500 and GT350 starting ???
I am trying to figure out the strongest cylinder casting, at what engine build date did the cylinder walls finally get to the current GT500 casting.
I am trying to determine if there are GT350 blocks that are capable of the same road course continuous power output as the GT500 blocks. This would be differences beyond the clearance machining.
Was trying to decide on whether to just build a 5.2 predator block for the 18 GT to TT.
..Or snag a discount GT350 with build date *TBD* or later to TT.
Only looking for max 750 - 800 rwhp.
options:
just buy a GT500 if I could find one at MSRP...
TT a 2020 GT350.
build 18 GT with motor and a spare GT350 front and rear suspension with brakes that was left over from the 15 GT track spares.
Goal is track day fun, not necessarily fastest laps.
True. But the Engineering Number cast into the block will change as well when there is a change. The actual letters represented by the "XX" after 6015 will indicate the change.I think all generations of the Voodoo blocks have an OEM number that starts with GR3Z.
The latest is GR3Z-6010-F
If you search the older versions GR3Z-6010- A to E that have been discontinued. Thanks
Is that visible on a stock 19-20 GT350?True. But the Engineering Number cast into the block will change as well when there is a change. The actual letters represented by the "XX" after 6015 will indicate the change.
On your 52A Block from above, what is the number cast into it?
A 52B block will have a "XX"KR3E 6015 AA cast into it.
It's there, just above the oil pan and directly between the last two side bolts for the main caps. How easy it is to see I don't know.Is that visible on a stock 19-20 GT350?
little mirror on an extension? It's there, just above the oil pan and directly between the last two side bolts for the main caps. How easy it is to see I don't know.
