Hey everyone, curious about something! I bought a 2018 GT PP1 a few days ago. Out of curiosity when researching, I looked up the VIN and it says this car has 435hp instead of 460hp. Did Ford make some 2018s with 435hp, or are the “VIN Lookup” sites just wrong? Thanks!

No, it's wrong.

Unless you got a Gen 2 engine by mistake, but I highly doubt that. Enjoy your 460hp.
Thanks! It has the quad tips etc, so it’s definitely a 2018. I was just surprised to see VIN information to be flat out wrong.

I doubt you would ever feel the difference anyway so just enjoy your car with whatever it has!!:like::wink::sunglasses:

One easy way to see if you had a Gen 2 vs Gen 3 is open up the hood! They look very different, even without the engine covers. However, the VIN search is definitely wrong and you have a Gen 3 with all of its 460hp goodness. Though I'd say you have closer to 500hp based on drag racing trap speeds and a stock engine dyno by Hot Rod (putting out 497).

Yes, that VIN site is showing incorrect info.
In fact, even in dealer order guides and equipment information, for the 2018+ GT mustang, they still show it as "435" in the equipment line info, despite the output changing to 460hp in 2018+

Rest assured, you most likely have true Gen3 Coyote in there.

What's the "VIN site"? If it's some non-Ford resource, I'd take any information provided with a grain of salt.

the '18s actually picked up about 130 lbs curb weight so...at 1hp per 10 lbs of weight should we say 12hp rather than 25 in actual performance? just a thought...dman
