I just went out to check the oil on my Shelby, which I never really do but I had this weird feeling. I have 18k miles and I’ve never burned any oil. I was 2 quarts low just now and the dip stick was half way out.

Has anyone else experienced the dipstick hanging halfway out? I’m wondering if the stupid dealer just didn’t put it back in all the way, last oil change was about 8 months ago, or if something else happened.

I think someone has posted about this before. I believe there is an o-ring on the dipstick that holds it in place. Check to see if yours is intact.

Do you remember if you checked the oil level after the dealer changed it? My dealer on a different vehicle never put my dip stick
back in. Luckily I always look everything over if they touch it which is only when I need warranty work.

I think I have checked the oil in my GT350 more in 2 years than all of the cars I’ve ever owned combined.

There are options out there for dipsticks with 2 o-rings if anyone is concerned with the Ford dipstick.

Checked the O-ring, it looks good.

No I did not check it which is probably a mistake. I know I will be checking it from now on.

LOL
I think, I never check anything else in my life more than checking oil level in voodoo engine. Checking when it's warm, cold or in extremely cold and warm weather conditions. I can call my self professional oil checker and get certificate from Ford.

Ya, don’t know what’s more shocking, the dip stick only half inserted or the no checky oil for 8 months

My money is on that the dealership used the rule of thumb of 1 qt per cylinder. Top it off and keep an eye on it.
