Obviously we are wasting our time here. I will never happily accept the increased government oppression that you long for. Your view of capitalism, from a moral/ethical standpoint, is precisely what advocates of capitalism and free markets feel about socialism, it is fundamentally immoral for government to take from some to give to others, to set arbitrary limits on success, etc. As you note, most Americans have no clue what socialism really is. Most young people who have positive feelings for the word socialism, reject the principals when properly explained. So yes, as long as people remain ignorant of the history of economic and social destruction left by socialism, it will continue to be appealing to many.

Of course Joe isn't going to understand it, as every Republican has said he's senile. He didn't write it nor would he have used it so what makes you think this guy would have been a subject matter expert? Joe only knows what is written down for him.

The better question is did you understand the ACA? I am going to assume you did not. The ACA was a better plan because we knew what we were getting unlike now where there are so many unknowns or no policy in place. I'm not saying the ACA was perfect but it is far better to know the costs before hand than to price in the unknown for both clients and doctors.

Lets not even get into the fact that the Republicans attempted to sabotage the ACA at least a dozen times with co-ops short changed, legal challenges from day one, refusal of ACA medicare, obstruction of enrollments, efforts to invalidate premiums, and many more.

If you care to actually learn what is going on around you rather than reading obviously biased news sources, or scripted propaganda you can always do the research yourself.

Simplified explanation of the ACA

What increased government oppression am I longing for? There is always going to be government oppression in any society. Hell our government does this on a daily basis and there are numerous examples both foreign and domestically.

Your argument only works if you oppose the idea of a meritocracy. People who are born rich are born with massive advantages. It's immoral that someone who is smart and hard working be given a shit deal and someone who is dumb and lazy have a golden parachute.

We need societal benefits such as roads, education, infrastructure, social safety nets; the like and someone has to pay for them all so it is logical that the people who can pay hold a greater share of the burden than those who can not.

The idea behind progressive tax systems is that incremental value of each dollar doesn't remain the same as you get wealthier. If you make 20k a year and we tax you at 20%, that 4k might men the difference between making your rent and putting food on the table or not, while if you make 200k and get taxed at 20% that 40k loss will not cost you your home or your dinner. Since these programs have to be paid by someone, its logical that we tax the people who won't have as significant a lifestyle impact more than those who would. Now, we can debate whether or not the government should be doing as much as it currently is.

There is so much more to get into when it comes to ethics and morality when it comes to capitalism and I'm only talking capitalism as this thread has nothing to do with socialism, rather the lack of understanding everyone has for our political policies.

We can agree to disagree on much, but do not suggest I am advocating for government oppression of the majority or socialism.

And sock puppet status confirmed. Is anyone really surprised.

Facebook Glitch Reveals Greta Thunburg's Father Posting As Teenage Climate Activist

A Thursday evening software update at Facebook accidentally allowed anyone to view exactly who is posting under the accounts of public figures, businesses and other entities, according to Wired. The result? For starters, some 3 million followers of teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg have been reading posts written by her father, Svante Thunberg, and a climate activist in India who serves as a delegate at the UN's Climate Change organization, Adarsh Prathap. Thunberg, Inc. claims Greta is still the one writing the content.

Greta, Inc. explained this in a Saturday Facebook post purporting to be the young climate activist. "Some people have been asking who manages this page. First of all, since last spring I only use Facebook to repost what I write on my Twitter and Instagram accounts," reads the post, in which 'she' says she tried Facebook "early on," but didn't like it, so she uses "my father Svantes account to repost content." "The rest that is shared on Facebook is reposted from Twitter and Instagram by the guy who founded the Greta Thunberg Facebook page long before I knew it existed. His name is Adarsh Prathap and he lives in India. Since a lot of people thought it was my official page in the beginning I asked if I could co-manage it and he said yes." Greta claims to have written all the content posted by her father and Prathap. In other words, "of course it's not me silly - you should have known I just 'co-manage' the fan page."

Except - by all outward appearances it appeared to be her page alone. Facebook's 'page transparency' shows Greta as the confirmed owner - with the only clue suggesting she might have help being a page manager located in India.

According to Facebook, the flaw was quickly fixed - but not before the people behind famous accounts were revealed and shared on public forums such as 4chan. "We quickly fixed an issue where someone could see who edited or published a post on behalf of a Page when looking at its edit history," said the company in a statement. "We are grateful to the security researcher who alerted us to this issue."

Facebook says the bug was the result of a code update that it pushed Thursday evening. It's not something most people would have encountered on their own, since it took navigating to a Page, viewing an edit history, and realizing that there shouldn't be a name and profile picture assigned to edits to exploit it. Still, despite the Friday morning fix, screenshots circulated on 4chan, Imgur, and social media appearing to show the accounts behind the official Facebook Pages of the pseudonymous artist Banksy, Russian president Vladimir Putin, former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton, Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, the hacking collective Anonymous, climate activist Greta Thunberg, and rapper Snoop Dogg, among others. Facebook points out that no information beyond a name and public profile link were available, but that information isn't supposed to appear in the edit history at all. And for people, say, running anti-regime Pages under a repressive government, making even that much information public is plenty alarming. -Wired

Yeah, literally everyone does that dumbass. You think 'God' was posting on his twitter and fb account too? Next thing you're going to tell me is that celebrities take their own photos and run their own media accounts too.

Trump does it all the time, yet you eat this shit up cause you're ignorant and don't give a shit as long as it aligns with your confirmation bias.

The science for climate change is irrefutable. Can't refute scientific fact? Better character assassinate, or just lie in general and dismiss facts like typical narcissists.

Well. i can give my opinion as a person who lived under a socialist government... who works for a company where the owners are from another country with a socialist government and not as someone who lived all his/her life on a 1st world country playing leftist from their iphone using facebook... SOCIALISM IS GARBAGE... it doesn't work and it never will... why? imagine all mustang ran 13 sec, and no matter how hard you work and modify your car, you are not allowed to run faster than 13 sec... plus, your lazy ass neighbor who is driving on bald tires, no regular maintenance , etc will complain if you run faster... he should run faster too... so they take some of your mods to put it in his car just because we all should be the same... fuck that.

there is 2 kind of people that say socialism works... people who live in nice capitalist countries and NEVER had to experience the actual socialism and people who live in socialist countries and have business with the government and get rich af doing any kind of illegal shit you can think of.... there is an extra kind... the poor ignorant people that are happy with scraps... socialism wants to keep you dumb and poor, so when they do something or give you something, you think they are great... oh the stories i can tell you...

the worst part is that communism is always introduced as socialism... it's the equivalent of "just the tip", then boom... balls deep...

Venezuela has an inflationary rate that i don't even know how to explain it without you guys saying "that's a lie, that's impossible"... it's the twilight zone...

Sill confused about which system is better?
Easy enough to answer.

We have all seen citizens of socialist countries fleeing for a capitalist country right?

When was the last time you saw a citizen of a capitalist country flee to a socialist country?

this is low denomination Bolivares... let me explain why...

imagine that you have to pay cash in here... regular american dollars... your biggest bill is $100. Now, basic stuff like a cheeseburger, a bottle of water, going to the movies, etc will cost you, $1.000.000, $350.000 and $25.000.000 due to the crazy 300% inflation... if you are planing to pay cash, you are gonna need a pick truck full of cash just so you can take your girlfriend on a date... a really cheap date actually...

i have 2 stories about how worthless bolivares are...

1. a color copy, many many many years ago (i left over 10 years ago), will cost you 120 Bs (the biggest bill was 100), so, my cousin needed to do a school work about money, and it was cheaper to glue an actual bill to the paper than make a photocopy of that bill...

2. Had a couple friends with mechanic shops over there (both are here in the US now, with their own shop and VERY VERY VERY good mechanics and both do high performance... Austin and Miami if anybody is looking LOL) and they used to drill holes on coins to use as spacers, washers, etc, because a simple washer was more expensive than the coin...

people started making belts, purses, etc with the bills because it is worthless...

again... whoever tells you, socialism is awesome, its because they live on a nice happy capitalist country and the only socialism they know is something they read while drinking coffee and Starbucks and posting on Facebook... or they have some good good good deal with a socialist government that is making them tons of money (yes, that horrible capitalist thing)

Who here actually read the first post? Because this thread isn't about socialism we all know a socialist economy is bad, rather, the man who made the thread doesn't understand what socialism is.

No one is arguing for a socialist economy. It just so happen a few folks here can't comprehend simple economic definitions because to them all the other developed nations in the world besides the US are socialists, lmao.
